The Curse of the Dandakranya is set in Prayvarsha, layman translation to ‘Peninsular Land’ (wink, wink). The country is in tumult, facing an unprecedented calamity that seems to have appeared out of nowhere, which forces them to stay shut in fear and trepidation and steals their loved ones with disgusting haught. The Forest grows unabated, uncaring of how many innocent lives are lost in its grasp. It is a story about parents, of friends, of demons and monsters. It is a story about a girl’s fight against her fate, and memories that plague her still. It is about the will of men in despairing times, of fights against destinies. Of a friendship that proves thicker than blood. A book rife with twists and turns, it hopes to be a journey that takes you on a mysterious ride through the dark and dusty corridors of a world in peril.

An empathetic, moving account of what drives indigenous peasants to support armed struggle despite severe state repression, including lives lost, and homes and communities destroyed Over the past decade, the heavily forested, mineral-rich region of Bastar in central India has emerged as one of the most militarized sites in the country. The government calls the Maoist insurgency the “biggest security threat” to India. In 2005, a state-sponsored vigilante movement, the Salwa Judum, burned hundreds of villages, driving their inhabitants into state-controlled camps, drawing on counterinsurgency techniques developed in Malaysia, Vietnam and elsewhere. Apart from rapes and killings, hundreds of “surrendered” Maoist sympathizers were conscripted as auxiliaries. The conflict continues to this day, taking a toll on the lives of civilians, security forces and Maoist cadres. In 2007, Sundar and others took the Indian government to the Supreme Court over the human rights violations arising out of the conflict. In a landmark judgment in 2011 the court banned state support for vigilantism. The Burning Forest describes this brutal war in the heart of India, and what it tells us about the courts, media and politics of the country. The result is a fascinating critical account of Indian democracy.

Indigo written by Satyajit Ray and has been published by Penguin Books India this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-20 with Fiction categories.

Indigo is a collection of stories about the supernatural, the peculiar and the inexplicable from Satyajit Ray, one of the best-loved writers of our times. There are tales here of dark horror, fantasy and adventure along with heart-warmingly funny stories about ordinary people in extraordinary situations. In 'Big Bill' Tulsi Babu picks up a newly-hatched chick from a forest and brings it home only to find it growing bigger and fiercer by the day; in 'Khagam' a man kills a sadhu's deadly pet snake and invites a curse which brings about horrifying changes in his body; and in the title story, a young executive resting in an old abandoned bungalow for a night, finds himself caught up in a chilling sequence of events which occurred more than a century ago. Also included here is 'The Magical Mystery', a brand new Feluda story discovered amongst Ray's papers after his death, and several tales featuring Uncle Tarini, the master storyteller who appears in translation for the first time. From Mr. Shasmal, who is visited one night by all the creatures he has ever killed, to Ashamanja Babu, who does not know what to do when his pet dog suddenly begins to laugh, the unforgettable characters in these stories surprise, shock and entertain us in equal measure. Indigo is a veritable treasure trove especially for those who like a taste of the unusual in a short story and an unexpected twist at the end. Translated from the Bengali by the author and Gopa Majumdar.

Let S Call Him Vasu written by Subharanshu Choudhary and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-01 with Literary Collections categories.

How did Chhattisgarh turn into India’s ‘biggest internal security threat’? How did it become the epicentre of the Maoist rebellion? Why did the backbenchers—the quiet adivasi classmates from the author’s school—turn into the nation’s ‘biggest terrorists’? In this passionate quest to find out what ails the failing heart of India, Shubhranshu Choudhary spent seven years with hundreds of Maoists, asking probing questions at all levels of their hierarchy to meticulously piece together the stories of these hunted men and women. At the centre of this extraordinary account is the enigmatic Vasu—at once comrade and rebel, friend and stranger. By telling his story, Choudhary destroys many stereotypes to flesh out a layered portrait of the misunderstood Maoist, making Let’s Call Him Vasu the most comprehensive and least partisan account of Maoists in recent times.

Written in a storytelling style the novel Raja, Jungle and Black Moon is the translation of one of the well-known novels of Hindi Raja, Jungle aur Kala Chand. The tale of Bastar is an old story that starts from the 13th century. The Raja who reached Bastar the most secluded jungle which was the abode of primitive tribes of our time, had to become king of this area which even didn’t have the word ‘king’ in the local dialect. The endless desires and greed for power and wealth were destined to a dramatic end for the small princely kingdom of Bastar. It was the threshold for the beginning of a new era of uprising of the people of Bastar against British rule, against injustice and for the acceptance of their King or Raja as the ruler of Bastar. Rendered in English by well-known translator Naresh ‘Nadeem’ the novel is a long saga of many small intertwined interesting stories of Bastar. With affluent small sentences with a flair of pure storytelling style, the novel presents the sufferings, pain, simplicity and happenings in the world of tribes of Bastar to make their life, values and way of living understandable for a common reader.
