I nomi dei personaggi, gran parte di loro realmente esistiti, sono stati cambiati per ovvi motivi, e i luoghi adattati al romanzo. Gran parte della vicenda narrata, si svolge in una cittadina del Sudafrica, la piccola Kleinbaai. A fare il bello e il cattivo tempo qui è Akin Ayodele, un potente narcotrafficante e schiavista, che ha come base la sua società di trasporti navali. Impariamo presto a conoscerne i protagonisti del romanzo, dal boss milanese, interpretato da un cattivissimo Massimo Zorzi, personaggio realmente esistito, al suo braccio destro Giuseppe De Simone killer della camorra dei Casalesi, altro personaggio esistente e, ancora vivo, ai membri dell’organizzazione terroristica cecena Cha, Bula e Borz. Quando la lente d’ingrandimento sull’organizzazione di Zorzi si fa sempre più ampia, ci da modo di conoscere anche tutti gli altri personaggi, e le sfere d’influenza che riescono ad avere sull’intera vicenda, a partire da Vittorio Sarri, alla sua compagna Diana Keller, all’agente della Cia Kenneth A. Blanco, forse uno dei personaggi più sfaccettati e intriganti del romanzo, al boss dell’Ndrangheta Vito Masseria, realmente esistito e ucciso come narrato. Sin dalle prime pagine, appare chiaro quanto le vicende personali e i legami che intercorrono tra i personaggi, influenzano e determinano le azioni e le relazioni instaurate con le altre organizzazioni. Va comunque detto che, ho imbastito l’intreccio della storia partendo da fatti realmente accaduti, inquadrandoli nel contesto delle organizzazioni mafiose italiane e straniere. Per conoscere dunque, luci, ombre e dinamiche di questi personaggi, oltre ad aver conosciuto personalmente alcuni di loro, mi sono anche documentato con gli scarti dei processi, e poi ho apportato delle modifiche, per passare dal singolo personaggio protagonista, ai gruppi uniti nelle organizzazioni criminali. Tutto ciò, mi è stato d’ispirazione per raccontare questa storia, e per dare più coerenza al contesto del racconto, alcuni esempi, sono Marcello Mura il direttore del carcere, Sandra Vuono e la sua brutale fine, e poi lo spione del direttore, nei panni del detenuto Alfredo Cerri, tre personaggi realmente esistiti. Si tratta spesso di figure criminali, contorte e perverse, tormentate, divise e lacerate tra dubbi e incertezze, oltre che dall’ambiente in cui vivono. In tutto questo, altrettanta importanza ha la cornice in cui la storia viene raccontata: la piccola cittadina di Kleinbaai, una località della provincia sudafricana con un proprio equilibrio, spesso regolato da chi si dimostra più forte e diffidente verso il nuovo arrivato di turno. Anche nei momenti in cui la vicenda si sposta in America, il contesto viene reso subito chiaro, mostrando le tragiche e sanguinose conseguenze inasprite dal malvagio Zorzi. Leggendo attentamente Danger Point, vi renderete conto facilmente che a partire dagli eventi iniziali, si innesca un domino di eventi che darà il passo fino alla fine del racconto, che si chiuderà con un finale più emozionante che mai.
