Cet ouvrage est le fruit d'un travail mené depuis plusieurs années auprès de différents publics d'élèves et dans le cadre de la formation initiale et continue des enseignants, autour de relations possibles entre la danse et d'autres arts tels que les arts plastiques, la musique et la littérature. Danser l'oeuvre d'un artiste, tel est le défi lancé par le photographe Laurent Paillier et le critique de danse Philippe Verrièle à onze jeunes chorégraphes représentant la plus remuante des scènes d'aujourd'hui. Onze chapitres donc : pour chacun l'oeuvre d'un plasticien a été proposée à un chorégraphe. Chaque séance dansée et photographiée est rendue par une dizaine d'images, accompagnée d'un texte sur le plasticien lu dans la perspective de son lien à l'art chorégraphique, ainsi que d'un entretien avec le chorégraphe à propos de ce plasticien et, plus généralement, de sa relation aux arts plastiques. Onze artistes majeurs, de Fontana à Klein, de Pollock à Degottex, et c'est là que les jeunes chorégraphes sont indispensables : quand on prendrait plutôt des gants pour se frotter à certaines figures, eux les abordent à bras-le-corps, voire au corps-à-corps. La relation danse et arts plastiques est revisitée dans ce cadre original et décapant où, une fois n'est pas coutume, c'est aux chorégraphes de donner leur sentiment sur des artistes et de les prendre comme sujet, quand il est plutôt l'usage que ce soit l'inverse. Au moins une certitude, cela va bouger...
