Dark sound carries the dense cultural weight of darkness; it is the undertow of music that embodies melancholy, desire, grief, violence, rage, pain, loss and longing. Compelling and unnerving, dark sound immerses bodies in the darkest moments and delves into the depths of our hidden inner selves. There is a strangely perverse appeal about music that conjures intense affective states and about sound that can move its listeners to the very edge of the sayable. Through a series of case studies that include Moor Mother, Anna Calvi, Björk, Chelsea Wolfe and Diamanda Galás, D Ferrett argues that the extreme limits and transgressions of dark sound not only imply the limits of language, but are moreover tied to a cultural and historical association between darkness and the feminine within music and music discourse. Whilst the oppressive and violent associations between darkness and femininity are acknowledged, the author challenges their value to misogynistic, racist, capitalist and patriarchal power, showing how dark sound is charged with social, creative and political momentum.

For Zack Allen, it was supposed to be a chance to get away and relax. A weekend camping trip with a small group of friends seemed like the perfect distraction from a messy personal life, but as Zack and his friends made their way to the camping ground at Drifter's Folly Memorial Park, he couldn't shake the feeling something was terribly wrong. Zack should have listened to his gut, because he and his friends aren't the only ones in the forest. Someone else is watching-someone with dark intentions. And he wants to play a game...

Through The Dark Continent written by Henry Morton Stanley and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1879 with Africa categories.

Perhaps best known as the intrepid adventurer who located the missing explorer David Livingstone in equatorial Africa in 1871, Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904) played a major role in assembling the fragmented discoveries and uncertain geographical knowledge of central Africa into a coherent picture. He was the first European to explore the Congo River; assisted at the founding of the Congo Free State, and helped pave the way for the opening up of modern Africa. In this classic account of one of his most important expeditions, the venerable Victorian recounts the incredibly difficult and perilous journey during which he explored the great lakes of Central Africa, confirming their size and position, searched for the sources of the Nile, and traced the unknown Congo River from the depths of the continent to the sea.

Chuck Palahniuk returns with the chilling tale, in classic Palahniuk tradition, of a father in search of his daughter, a young woman with a secret, and a malicious recording that can make "the whole world scream at the exact same time." Private detective Foster Gates is a father is in search of his missing daughter, and sound engineer Mitzi harbors a secret that may help him solve the case. It's Mitzi's job to create the dubbed screams used in horror films and action movies. She's the best at what she does. But what no one in Hollywood knows is the screams Mitzi produces are harvested from the real, horror-filled, blood-chilling screams of people in their death throes--a technique first employed by Mitzi's father and one she continues on in his memory--a deeply conflicted serial killer compelled beyond her understanding to honor her father's chilling legacy. Soon Foster finds himself on Mitzi's trail. And in pursuit of her dark art, Mitzi realizes she's created the perfect scream, one that compels anyone who hears it to mirror the sound as long as they listen to it--a highly contagious seismic event with the potential to bring the country to its knees.

Do you ever get that creepy feeling? ... Like there's something spooky hiding under your bed? ... Like a rumbling growl from a dark alley as you walk past? ... Like that shivering sensation at the back of your spine, as if someone you can't see... is watching you? Get ready to be freaked out! Fifteen young editors, mentored by children's author Tony Wilson and publishing industry professionals, put together a spine-chilling collection of stories on the theme of 'creepy horror'. The collection includes twelve hair-raising tales and poems written by young Australian writers between the ages of 8 to 12, alongside an original contribution by children's author Oliver Phommavanh, that Andy Griffiths describes as "A white knuckle rollercoaster ride of pure terror!" Program Details Every year, a panel of fifteen young editors, aged 8 to 12, are assembled to take part in 100 Story Building's Early Harvest publishing program. They select the theme of the book, commission cover art, and illustrations, curate the collection and make all the creative decisions involved in putting the book together. Throughout the process, they are guided by publishing industry professionals -- including authors, designers, artists, and marketing experts. This year, 100 Story Building facilitators and children's writer Tony Wilson mentored children from across Melbourne through school incursions on the intricacies of writing a truly creepy tale. One hundred and thirty of these young authors submitted finished stories for consideration. From these, the young editors selected the twelve best stories and rounded out the collection by commissioning Oliver Phommavanh to contribute his work. The Early Harvest program was launched in 2011. Since then, the associated publications have featured 116 young authors as well as Andy Griffiths, Terry Denton, Shaun Tan, Alice Pung, Sally Rippin, Maxine Beneba Clarke, Andrew McDonald, Davina Bell, and Morris Gleitzman.
