Dark Sunrise Vietnam removes readers from the easy chair and places them with two Marine Corps Divisions in Vietnam. The South Vietnamese cannot defeat the Viet Cong or North Vietnamese in combat. Before long the Marine Corps 3rd Division is sent north to the DMZ. The 1st Marine Division South to Da Nang and the Mekong Delta. The Marines have a bond between them forged in steel and tempered in blood. Search and Destroy missions, Combat sweeps and Patrols are conducted. A continuous problem is surrounding the enemy in combat and suddenly intense silence. Combat sweep of the area reveals no enemy dead, where did they go? The enemy is almost always invisible unless willing to be seen. The Ho Chi Minh trail is found with elephants carrying heavy guns or ammunition. Also thousands of old men and women moving supplies on their backs or bicycles. When the tunnels of Chu Chi are discovered, they weave through a trail of deception, Bear traps, Punji traps, snares, trip wires, tiger pits, bombs, lures, shadows and ambush. Help from the Mongtagnard Tribesmen is requested. How does this all end?

This is the story of a United States Marine Corps 12 man Rifle Squad plus the Squad Leader. It places the reader in landing craft racing toward a hostile beach being pounded by enemy gunfire, viewing the beaches as they are engulfed in a maelstrom of steel and fire. They are joined aboard troop ships, and on land in craters created by naval gunfire. The squad's liberty in Honolulu, Hawaii is hilarious. Each island introduces its own unique horror, Guadalcanal with its malaria infested jungles and being heavily outnumbered by the enemy. Tarawa and marines wading in waist deep water into murderous machine gun fire. Also Saipan with one thousand five hundred Japanese soldiers in a suicidal Banzai Charge and the desperate hand to hand combat that takes place. Tinian's calculated gamble on the landing beaches. Iwo Jima's caves leading to the two flags raised on Mount Suribachi is an introduction into hell. Finally, the Japanese decision to defend Okinawa not on the beaches but in depth with heavily fortified positions taking a very heavy toll in men and equipment. Thirteen men whose friendship is forged in steel and tempered in blood. The spirit of comradeship is not killed in combat, but the individual members of the original squad are. The squad takes it losses and in the process reveals their innermost thoughts. In one of the final chapters, Sgt. Louis Rossi leads a patrol into the atom-bombed city of Nagasaki. In another at Sasebo he meets the lovely Geisha, 'Keiko.' With tears in her eyes she tells him 'My mother, father and two brothers died in the firestorms your bombers caused. Yet I cannot hate you. I wish you only peace and happiness.' Finally the return home to try healing shattered bodies, tortured minds and frayed nerves. However, some could no longer return to the society and family they had left behind. Intolerance and demons of war came into their rooms each night to haunt them. The decision to reenlist was made with difficulty and for different reasons; however, in the final analysis the thoughts were similar. The Marine Corps understands me.

Korea, the forgotten war is brought into focus This is a story of love, passion and war. It wrenches men from the arms of the woman in their lives with no warning. A warm parting embrace a lingering kiss and the haunting wisp of cologne is the passport to unrelenting, unforgiving combat. It wrenches men from the arms of their woman and places them in landing craft -racing toward a hostile enemy beach being pounded by aircraft and ships. Bringing an under strength 1st Marine Division to full strength on its way to -combat was incredibly challenging even for the Marine Corps. Men reported for boarding AP A in civilian clothes. It was necessary to issue uniforms, equipment and rifles minutes before casting off lines holding the ship to the -pier. Crash programs are initiated aboard ships at sea to prepare these men for combat. Fortunately officers and non-commissioned offers were combat experienced and ready for combat. The woman left at home prepares the children for school or are pregnant and visiting the doctor. When asked, "where is daddy" the reply announced by the President of the United States was "Police Action."

"In September 2004, the Intelligence Science Board, an advisory board appointed by the Director of National Intelligence, initiated the Study on Educing Information (EI). This study is an ongoing effort to review what is known scientifically about interrogation and other forms of human intelligence collection and to chart a path to the future. As part of our efforts, we have worked closely with faculty and students of the National Defense Intelligence College. The NDIC Press published "Educing Information: Interrogation: Science and Art, Foundations for the Future," a book based on Phase I of the Study on EI. Three students, Special Agent James Stone, U.S. Air Force; Special Agent David Shoemaker, U.S. Air Force; and Major Nicholas Dotti, U.S. Army, completed master's thesis studies during Academic Year 2006-07 on topics related to interrogation. Special Agent Stone researched U.S. efforts during World War II to develop language and interrogation capacities to deal with our Japanese enemy. He found that military leaders, often working with civilian counterparts, created and implemented successful strategies, building on cultural and linguistic skills that substantially aided the war effort for the U.S. and its Allies. Special Agent Shoemaker studied the experiences of three successful interrogators during the Vietnam War. Like Stone, Shoemaker highlights the importance of a deep understanding of the language, psychology, and culture of adversaries and potential allies in other countries. Major Dotti examined recent policy and practice with regard to tactical and field interrogations, especially with regard to the efforts of Special Forces soldiers in Iraq. He concludes that the "letter" of current doctrine contradicts its "intent." Major Dotti offers recommendations that he believes are both consistent with the intent of military doctrine and likely to increase the effectiveness of U.S. interrogation practices in the field"--P. v.

When It Get S Dark written by Gary Topolewski and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-12 with categories.

When It Gets Dark is a 600,000 word fictional Vietnam War drama based on the real events. An even more unsettling Apocalypse Now when two idealistic West Point grads fight in Vietnam their idealism and confidence takes a beating in their first tour. One platoon leader questions everything whereas his counterpart feels the need to join Special Forces to really make a difference in the war. Haunted by his charges being killed, maimed and disabled he questions his sanity about being a combat leader fighting over the same piece of real estate over and over.In the stripped-down, barbaric life of an infantryman, Michael McLachlan, a Harvard bound rich kid from Philadelphia elects to go to West Point and dismiss his chosen destiny to be an egg head lawyer working the Wall Street racket. His classmate Frenchie Goulet convinces him not to abandon Vietnam after one combat tour and join him in Special Forces. As he eventually agrees to Goulet's badgering friends and family alike question his mental state. As they both become top secret SOG commandos they realize how dark their work is and how truly convoluted the Army is, the chain of command and other meddling departments of the US government and double dealing politicians. Even the four branches of the military go to war amongst themselves over turf wars, control of assets and bombing at the cost of the lives of Special Forces troops. Further the book explores the double dealing involving the State Department, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Congress and President Nixon as Watergate slowly destroys any chance of saving South Vietnam. When It Gets Dark is deeply inspired by the heroic men and women who served in Vietnam, a glimpse of the sacrifices and dedication it takes to be a soldier along with the frustration of fighting in that endless war. Having met and been acquainted with many Vietnam Veterans, their stories and sacrifice had to be told. Forty years later the Vietnam Veteran has not received his due and certainly zero has been told about SOG commando's that were dispatched to kill their South Vietnamese allies, top NVA generals, treasonous Americans and foreign war profiteers. They fought with dedication to their comrades in arms and to their country. But most importantly, they showed the strength, courage and determination to fight in the most unpopular war in America's history.

"When Laurence Thompson's original Vietnamese Grammar first appeared in 1965, it went almost instantly to the top of the list of required reading for serious students of the Vietnamese language. It has stayed there ever since but, in recent years, the title has become almost impossible to find, either in bookstores or in libraries, where original copies have often grown woefully ragged and marked up or are now simply missing. In the meanwhile, the author has become aware of a number of minor infelicities and typographical errors requiring correction. Thus, both demand and scholarship have dictated this re-edition." -From the Editor's Note

Danny Reed was a genius who was raised by his Aunt after the death of his parents when he was a baby. He was also an idealist who enlisted into the United States Navy, thinking he would be able to make a difference in the world. Once in, he became a hospital corpsman and volunteered for duty with a United States Marine Corps unit that was being deployed overseas to Vietnam. However, the moment he set foot upon the Southeast Asian shoreline, a strange and dark metamorphosis began to take shape within him, leaving those who loved him the most wondering if he would ever make it back from the self induced hell he eventually became a part of, or would he fall into the abyss, never to return.

After graduating from the University of Missouri in 1969 I was commissioned as an officer in the Marines. I served an interesting tour of duty in Southeast Asia in 1972, during which time I was in and out of six different countriesincluding Vietnam. A greenhorn lieutenant when I landed, I was eventually promoted to captain. Because of my God given take charge personality and a few very junior officer notable accomplishments I found myself frequently being handpicked for special assignments. I saw action with seven different unitssome good some badsome ugly. I saw men die. I saw capable men withered by fatigue, brave men crippled by fear. Since I served, more than forty years ago now, I have had the pleasure and privilege of meeting and getting to know hundreds of fellow-Vietnam Vets; short term acquaintances, professional colleagues, neighbors, close friends, family members. Although our individual Vietnam stories are unique and intensely personal, I have come to realize that a common thread runs through most of them. For more than twenty-five years I have been asked to formally speak to sundry civic organizations, history classes, and social gatherings. As a result of fielding thousands of audience questions and listening to their spontaneous reactions to my talks I have learned what people are interesting in hearing. I have seen their reactions to my version of Americas Vietnam experience. I know whats interesting and whats not; whats important to those who werent there, ordinary people who merely wonder what it was like. I have enjoyed two successful careers and am currently embarked upon my third. I have fired most of lifes best bullets, emptied most of my chosen weapons most precious magazines, drained my fullest canteens, exhausted most of my allotted time on this fair planet we call earth. I want to share a few of the stories of men I served with, men I came to know later in life, men I loved as brothers-in-arms surviving in harms way; or men who were simply Crazy Vietnam Vets (like me) with a special story to tell. Men JUST like meonly different! Ours are interesting up and down tales of wonder and weird, of good times and bad. I am happily married to a seasoned school nurse, am the father of three college educated sons, and have two fine grandsons. I live in Blanco, Texas about forty miles due west of Austin. I have always viewed lifes glass as half full; hope you enjoy our Not Ordinary war stories.
