The book is historical-systematical. The author presents in interdisciplinary - philosophical, psychological and theological - perspective understandingly, sympathizingly, but also critically the function of Christianity in C.G. Jung. For him, the human being is inherently religious and experiences God in his soul. Consequently, the essence of Christianity lies in the experience in which the believer is overwhelmed by unconscious forces. Therefore, religious experience is an experience of archetypes of the collective unconsciousness, which means that God and the unconscious in the religious experience cannot be distinguished. Jung regards religion as true if it heals the diseases of the soul. They treat because the healing powers of the unconscious are exceedingly fertile.

Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) war der Begründer der Analytischen Psychologie und Verfasser von zahlreichen Büchern und Schriften. Ein durchgehendes Thema bei Jung ist «die psychische Qualität metaphysischer Figuren», denen dann im zweiten Teil des Buches tiefgehend nachgegangen wird.

Diese Worte von Rudolf Steiner (1919) sind heute noch so aktuell wie damals, sie sind für die Analytische Psychologie C. G. Jungs ebenso gültig wie für die Anthroposophie. Steiners und Jungs ursprüngliche Visionen, Theorien und Werke sind in ihrer literarischen Gestalt zwar abgeschlossen, aber im Hinblick auf ein zukünftiges neues Menschen- und Weltbild keineswegs vollständig verstanden oder gar integriert. Somit ist die Gegenüberstellung dieser zwei großen Persönlichkeiten und ihrer Anschauungen mit Blick auf eine wechselseitige Befruchtung nach wie vor notwendig und hilfreich. Dabei muss in jedem Fall der Faktor der eigenen Erfahrung voll zur Geltung kommen. Ihm ist vor der "reinen Lehre" des einen wie des anderen Lehrers Priorität einzuräumen, sei es auf der Spur des anthroposophischen Erkenntniswegs, sei es auf dem Feld der Individuation, d. h. im Prozess der Selbst-Werdung. Im individuellen seelisch-geistigen Leben haben theoretische Absolutheitssansprüche keine Berechtigung. "In dem Augenblicke, wo wir auch nur innerlich unbewusst Dogmatiker sein wollen, können wir das Bewusstsein nicht mehr entwickeln" (R. Steiner, 1918). Auf eine solche Selbst-Erfahrung und Bewusstseinsentwicklung kommt es aber wesentlich an. Dem sollen Bestrebungen und Versuche dienen, die darauf gerichtet sind, zu einer gegenseitigen Kenntnisnahme und Horizonterweiterung beizutragen. Hierzu will das vorliegende Werk anregen und ermutigen.
