Länder - Neuzeit, Absolutismus, Industrialisierung, Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel (Historisches Seminar CAU Kiel), Veranstaltung: Alltag und Mentalität in der Frühen Neuzeit, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Es ist erstaunlich wie stark das Duell - zwar nicht so sehr den Alltag des einzelnen Menschen geprägt hat - umso mehr aber das Bewusstsein in Verbindung mit geistigen Werten und Tugenden wie Ehre, Anstand und Moral. In diesem Sinne hat das Duell auch statistisch gesehen in einem Zeitraum von dreißig Jahren mit über 1000 gerichtlichen Duellfällen in Baden, Preußen und Bayern eine nicht unerhebliche Zahl aufzuweißen. Vor allem wenn man bedenkt, dass damit nur die Fälle mit einem gerichtlichem Nachspiel erfasst sind. So muss die Gesamtzahl der Duelle durch die der Nichterfassten deutlich höher liegen. Allein daran sehen wir schon die große Bedeutung des Duells und in der Gesellschaft des 19. Jahrhunderts die Bedeutung der Mannesehre. Das Duell spielte in der Gesellschaft der Frühen Neuzeit eine große Rolle, besonders im 19. Jahrhundert. Diese Arbeit will der Frage nachgehen, wie die Gesellschaft mit dem Duellieren an sich umging, wie diese es zu stärken suchte, bzw. im Zuge mit dem all-gemeinen Abstieg des Adels gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts in Deutschland (beson-ders Bayern und Preußen) es auch zu beseitigen suchte. Erst die allgegenwärtige Prä-sens des Ehrenzweikampfes im Lebenszusammenhang bürgerlicher und adliger Männer, schuf überhaupt die Voraussetzung dafür, dass die "Duellfrage" im 19. Jahrhundert in-tensiv diskutiert und politisiert wurde. Ohne einen solchen tatsächlichen Rückhalt in konkreten Erfahrungen und "Erlebnisstrukturen" hätte das Duell niemals jenes immense öffentliche Interesse auf sich lenken können, das seinen Niederschlag in parlamentari-schen Anfragen, staats- und kirchenpolitischen Debatten sowie einer Unmenge rechts-wissenschaftlicher Traktate und literarischer W
