Enterprises today realise their many plans for innovation and change through projects. This is necessary to meet the challenges posed by globalisation, market dynamics and tough competition. However, successful innovation can only be achieved when projects are based on a broad professional and methodical foundation. Moreover, modern project management depends on a comprehensive and forward-looking management system. The efficiency of this system stems from an optimal interaction of the elements of the system, as well as ist integration within the enterprise. The application of classic project development techniques will, for instance, deliver a purely functional result. However, what is also important is a properly conducted approach to change management that also supports the psychological change process, through which all the people involved must go, in a professional manner. This book highlights the fact that project management is far more than merely trendy. With the aid of numerous diagrams, it delivers a real knowledge of project management independent of field of specialisation and level of hierarchy. Thanks to clear and reader-friendly language, concise learning aids such as learning objectives and an instructive case study, this book allows the complex subject of modern project management to be studied independently in an interesting way. As Managing Director of SPOL AG, Bruno Jenny realizes and accompanies various projects at various hierarchical levels with internationally active insurance, banking and industrial concerns as well as public authorities. In this function he has been able to gather a great deal of project-related experience through functional as well as psychological changes on the strategic and operative levels. As a lecturer, coach and testing expert the author is a well-versed authority on the current educational scene. In many lectures at public and internal management seminars as well as by means of various publications he communicates professional project management as a pioneering management system. He is a pioneering personality in the realm of modern project management. The findings published in this book are essentially characterized by his experiences. German version of the book (new edition!): Projektmanagement – Das Wissen für eine erfolgreiche Karriere.

Blockchain is widely considered a new key technology. The Foundation for Technology Assessment (TA-SWISS) has proposed a comprehensive assessment of blockchain technologies. With this publication, TA-SWISS provides the much-needed social contextualisation of blockchain. The first, more technical part of the study takes an in-depth look at how blockchain functions and examines the economic potential of this technology. By analysing multiple real-world applications, the study sheds light on where the blockchain has advantages over traditional applications and where existing technologies continue to be the better solution. The second part of the study examines how blockchain became mainstream. It explores the origins of blockchain in the early history of information technology and computer networks. The study also reveals the impact blockchain has on industrial and public spaces. Finally, it discusses the social implications and challenges of blockchain against the background of a new socio-technical environment.

We are living in the era of digital transformation. Computers are rapidly becoming the most important tool for companies, science, society, and indeed our everyday life. We all need a basic understanding of Computer Science to make sense of the world, to make decisions, and to improve our lives. Yet there are many misunderstandings about Computer Science. The reason is that it is a nascent discipline that has evolved rapidly and had to reinvent itself several times over the last 100 years – from the beginnings of scientific computing to the modern era of smartphones and the cloud. This book gives an intuitive introduction to the foundations and main concepts of Computer Science. It describes the basic ideas of solving problems with algorithms, modern data-driven approaches, and artificial intelligence (AI). It also provides many examples that require no background in technology. This book is directed toward teenagers who may wonder whether they should major in Computer Science, though it will also appeal to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the art of Computer Science and modern information technology. Of course, not everyone must become a computer expert, but everyone should take advantage of and understand the innovations and advances of modern technology.

Just over 100 years ago, 16-year-old Ludwig J. Bertele began an apprenticeship as an optical designer in Munich. The potential of this young man, so interested in mathematics, did not go unnoticed for long. At the age of only 20, he stunned the experts with an innovative optical design that was surprisingly powerful for that time. This fast, high-resolution lens made it possible to photograph indoors without flash and tripod for the first time. As a result, a well-equipped camera became the basis for the success of numerous famous photographers. The work of Ludwig J. Bertele played a key role in the rapid development of geometrical optics and thus photography after the First World War. Later, his designs also set new standards in aerial photogrammetry and other specialized fields of optics. This book tells the life story of an exceptionally talented man, autodidact and master of lens element combinations, who repeatedly set important impulses in optics research.

The peer reviewed papers in this new volume of the European Academy of Land Use and Development (EALD) inform about investigations on the common subject «land management» – due to the interdisciplinary nature of the EALD from very different views. The spectrum of contributions covers regulations, governance and the implementation of land management as well as the assessment of relevant data supporting these tasks. Various approaches, methods, systems and understanding of the government’s role in the different countries of Europe are highlighted. Committed to sustainability, the articles give evidence that Europe provides an experimental field for land management issues, and they enable to increase knowledge of new practices, to verify them and to learn from each other.

Digital Business Transformation, Digitalisation, Business Strategy, Business Process, Business Analysis, Business Architecture, Business Models This book serves practitioners as a guide to digital business engineering. It was consciously conceived and prepared from a methodological perspective, thereby avoiding a strongly "technological" approach, rather focusing on the presentation of methods and instruments. Its basis is a tried and tested framework model that can be understood as the ideal management cycle of digital business engineering. The control loop consists of goal-setting (Chapter 1: Setting a Business Strategy), implementation (Chapters 2–5), and success assessment (Chapter 6: Validating the Success of Business Transformation) and is located in an outer circuit. The operational implementation phases of digital business engineering are part of the inner cycle: Defining a Business Case (Chapter 2), Eliciting the Business Processes (Chapter 3), Deriving the Business Requirements (Chapter 4), and Transforming the Business Architecture (Chapter 5). The book follows a didactic structure: Each chapter includes learning objectives, summaries, and repetition questions with solutions that can help the reader to reassure themselves and strengthen their knowledge. Users who want to familiarise themselves with the field of digital business engineering thus have material at their disposal that is ideal for self-study. But these modules can also help experienced digital business engineers to deepen their knowledge in their organisation and to strengthen their overall methodological competence.

This open access volume raises awareness of the histories, geographies, and practices of universities and analyzes their role as key actors in today's global knowledge economy. Universities are centers of research, teaching, and expertise with significant economic, social, and cultural impacts at different geographical scales. Scholars from a variety of disciplines and countries offer original analyses and discussions along five main themes: historical perspectives on the university as a site of knowledge production, cultural encounter, and political interest; institutional perspectives on university governance and the creation of innovative environments; relationships between universities and the city; the impact of universities on national and regional economies and cultures; and the processes of internationalization through student mobility, the creation of education hubs, and global regionalism in higher education.
