Es erfolgt eine kurze Darstellung der Entstehung des semantischen Differentials aus der Theorie des Behaviorismus, so wie deren Genese zur modifizierten Form der "Einstellungsmessung". Entscheidend sind die Begriffe "Faktoren" und "semantischer Raum" und deren Zusammenhänge die das semantische Differential ausmachen. Erläutert werden die Probleme der "Metrik" sowie vor Allem der sog. "Skalen-Kozept-Interaktion". Von zentraler Bedeutung ist die Frage nach "universellen" und "konzeptspezifischen" Eindrucksdifferentialen. Im Zweiten Teil wird die sog. "Dialektkompetenz" behandelt, die für jegliche Form der Dialektforschung, des semantischen Differenzierens die grundsätzliche Bedingung darstellt.

In the 70s, under the influence of pragmatics, language was no longer seen as an abstraction, but as a means of communication between people, and the primary purpose of language became the exchange of meaning. Since language essentially deals with naming of concepts, the importance of lexis replaced the role played by grammatical structure. The idea was that meaning is primarily carried by lexis, because focus on communication implies emphasis on lexis and decreased emphasis on structure. In this paper, I will discuss the central ideas of Saussurean structuralism, in particular the notion of differential structure, then I will present the innovation brought in linguistics by Chomsky's generative structure, namely the universal nature of language as opposed to Sassure's idea about the uniqueness of language, and finally, I will analyze collocations in the light of these two structuralist theories. This paper does not intend to show the differences and incompatibilities between the structural and lexical approaches, but the point of coincidence and agreement between the two, namely the way meaning is defined through difference under the exercise of choice.

This Lecture Notes is based on lectures I have given to M.Sc. Mathematics students of Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, India. Here are the salient features of the Lecture Notes. Proofs of all assertions are completely given in a lucid student friendly manner. A large number of solved exercises are included. All these are to facilitate self study by the students. I have also adopted the modern approach to develop the classical topics treated here. The Lecture Notes is highly influenced by the approach adopted in Elementary Differential Geometry by Andrew Pressley and Differential Geometry of Curves and Surfaces by Manfredo P. do Carmo. I am indebted to these authors whose work have influenced my learning of the subject as well as the preparation of this Lecture Notes. A school based descriptive cross sectional study was conducted among 240 students in public and private school in Lekhnath Municipality. The socio-economic development is a main thrust of the State. Unless the development is based on inclusive approach, the process of development remains incomplete. For inclusive development, gender development should be taken as a backbone. The goal of gender development in such context is to achieve a social development whereby, both male and female have equal opportunities in all aspects of social life including, education, health, economy, social position, and recognition. In Nepal, the situation is still very far away. The social status of women/girl in Nepal is generally low, a situation attributable to both the general poverty of the country and the gender-biased distribution of power and resources in the family and in society.
