Für viele Industriezweige wie Medien und Textilindustrie stellen Jugendliche eine sehr wichtige und große Zielgruppe dar. Auch ein Blick in die Fachliteratur eröffnet ein breites Spektrum an Themenbereichen, die das Spannungsfeld Jugendalter von allen Seiten zu beleuchten versuchen. Oft stehen dabei sichtbare Faktoren und Entwicklungen im Vordergrund, die mit den Verhaltensweisen der Jugendlichen wie Gewaltbereitschaft oder Konsum von Suchtmitteln und den Jugend(sub)kulturen zu tun haben. Die physiologischen und psychologischen Entwicklungsprozesse im Jugendalter sind mittlerweile auch sehr gut erforscht und dokumentiert worden, was für das Verständnis der Jugendphase sehr wertvoll ist. Denn erst das Verständnis für die herausfordernden Veränderungen in der Pubertät und Adoleszenz und für die daraus entstehenden individuellen Problemlagen der Jugendlichen ermöglichen es, die allgemeine Entwicklung der Jugendlichen im gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhang, das äußere Erscheinungsbild und die provokativen oder passiven Verhaltensund Lebensweisen der Jugendlichen richtig einzuordnen. Nur wer Jugendliche versteht und weiß, was sie in ihrem Alltag beschäftigt, kann wirklich auf sie zugehen und mit ihnen angemessen umgehen. Meiner Ansicht nach verlangen dabei die Interaktion mit Jugendlichen und die Betrachtung ihrer Lebenssituation unbedingt den Einbezug ihrer Herkunftsfamilie. In meiner Tätigkeit in der freizeitpädagogischen und offenen Jugendarbeit habe ich nämlich oft die Erfahrung gemacht, dass für die psychosoziale Entwicklung der Jugendlichen neben den einflussreichen Bereichen wie Schule, Gleichaltrigengruppen und Medien insbesondere der Familie eine sehr entscheidende Bedeutung zukommt. Jugendliche selbst verweisen bei der Auseinandersetzung mit ihren persönlichen Problemlagen immer wieder auf die Verhältnisse in ihrer Familie und richten an ihre Eltern bestimmte Erwartungen. Gleichzeitig habe ich auch mitbekommen, dass die Eltern dieser Jugendlichen in ihrem Umgang mit ihnen oft verunsichert sind und nicht wissen, wie sie auf die adoleszenzspezifischen Veränderungen und das Autonomiestreben ihrer Kinder eingehen sollen.

What happens to people and the societies in which they live after genocide? How are the devastating events remembered on the individual and collective levels, and how do these memories intersect and diverge as the rulers of postgenocidal states attempt to produce a monolithic “truth” about the past? In this important volume, leading anthropologists consider such questions about the relationship of genocide, truth, memory, and representation in the Balkans, East Timor, Germany, Guatemala, Indonesia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sudan, and other locales. Specialists on the societies about which they write, these anthropologists draw on ethnographic research to provide on-the-ground analyses of communities in the wake of mass brutality. They investigate how mass violence is described or remembered, and how those representations are altered by the attempts of others, from NGOs to governments, to assert “the truth” about outbreaks of violence. One contributor questions the neutrality of an international group monitoring violence in Sudan and the assumption that such groups are, at worst, benign. Another examines the consequences of how events, victims, and perpetrators are portrayed by the Rwandan government during the annual commemoration of that country’s genocide in 1994. This book addresses the evolving structure of the three traditional women's organisations of the Methodist Church in post-apartheid South Africa, and the experiences of women in leadership roles within the church. These organisations are still more or less divided along racial lines. The aim of the fieldwork - carried out from 1995 to 1997 and in 2000 - was to find out if these racial boundaries would begin to dissolve and if women would find more empowerment in their congregations after the democratisation of the country. Further topics are the renaissance of African traditions and religious practices that came about with the end of apartheid. The methodology follows an ethnographic approach that relies heavily on interviews and participant observation, with the analysis bringing South African women's voices to bear on these issues, rather than providing an external and analytical analysis of the issues.
