English summary: Albrecht Beutel analyzes a text which is highly important for the understanding of Luther's concept of language: his sermon on the prologue to the Gospel of John in the 'Wartburgpostille' (1522). This sermon is made accessible to the interpretation by a thorough analysis of the text with due regard to the exegetical tradition. Parallel to this textual commentary, the systematic structure of Luther's concept of language, which pervades the whole of his theological thinking, is elaborated. In this way, a main field of Luther-research is comprehensively structured and thus made accessible to further detailed studies.

Gott Im Wort written by Joachim Ringleben and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Reflections On Reformational Theology written by Kimlyn J. Bender and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-29 with Religion categories.

The essays in this volume examine some of the fundamental doctrinal convictions of Martin Luther and the Reformation legacy, as well as the maturation and development of these convictions in the theology of Karl Barth. The broad evangelical vision that spans its various confessional tributaries is presented in the essays of this volume. Together these studies serve as a cumulative argument for the ongoing coherence, meaning, and consequence of that vision, one that at its heart is constructive and ecumenical rather than narrowly polemical. Kimlyn J. Bender examines a variety of topics such as the relation of Christ and the Church as understood in the theology of Luther and Barth, the centrality of Christ to an understanding of all the solas of the Reformation, the place and significance of the Reformers in Barth's own thought, and Barth's theology in conversation with distant descendants of the Reformation often neglected, including Baptists in America, Pietists in Europe, and Barth's own complicated relationship with Kierkegaard. Bender concludes his discussion by presenting constructive proposals for a Church and university “on the way” and thus ever-reforming.

The Catholic Roots of the Protestant Gospel is concerned with anti-Catholic bias in Protestantism. It wishes to show that the special concepts of salvation in Protestantism actually arose from Catholic ideas and that these same concepts became distorted or one-sided as Protestantism sought to negate their orthodox Catholic opponents. Among the doctrines discussed are included the following: justification by faith, assurance of salvation, imputation of righteousness, covenant theology, penal substitution, limited atonement, and supralapsarianism. The work is filled with historical analysis, theological insights, and ecumenical exhortations. The historian will find a thorough analysis of primary and secondary sources of the Reformation. The theologian will be challenged with fresh approaches to traditional doctrines. The ecumenist will be heartened by its spirit and analysis of subjects that suffer too often from anti-Catholic bias.

Scripture has always played an important role in Christian theology. This study provides an issue oriented overview of the concepts of Scripture in Protestant theology from the 16th century Reformation onward. It then sets forth the concepts of Scripture in the theologies of two contemporary systematic theologians: W. Pannenberg and D. G. Bloesch. It analyzes, compares and evaluates the theological and anthropological presuppositions that have influenced their concept of Scripture. Despite fundamentally different starting points and other significant distinctions Pannenberg and Bloesch reveal surprising similarities. This seems to suggest that for both the concept of Scripture is determined ultimately by presuppositions that are derived and shaped extra scripturamÓ.

How Does God Talk To Us written by Frank Hofmann and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-17 with Religion categories.

How does God talk to us? The image of the speaking God offers a profound insight into the nature of communication. The idea of the God’s Word runs like a red thread through the entire Bible. Few theologians, however, have interpreted the concept “Word of God” as a linguistic phenomenon, but Augustine, Luther, and Barth are among those who have. What sets this study apart from others is its emphasis on the aspects of semiotics (Augustine), semantics (Luther), and pragmatics (Barth). Hofmann then places these three theologians in the context of the linguistic analytical philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein, Ian Ramsey, and John L. Austin. This work carries forward the dialogue between theology and modern philosophy of language, while at the same time opening up the Word of God for human reality. It also touches on the fields of the doctrine of God and Christology, attempting nothing less than a comprehensive language theory of the Word of God.

Soli Deo Honor Et Gloria written by Sasja Mathiasen Stopa and has been published by LIT Verlag Münster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-10 with categories.

Sasja E.M. Stopa explores the influence of honour and glory on Martin Luther's theology. Luther's works overflow with terminology of honour and glory. Analysing a broad selection hereof, Stopa argues that his doctrine of justification centers on a soteriological concern for the recreation of human glory lost in the Fall and a doxological concern for God's glory stolen by sinners. Stopa shows how this relation to God patterns Luther's understanding of social relations and discusses justification as a process of mutual recognition translating Luther's theology of glory into contemporary theology.

""Of the Roman Catholic scholars of the Reformation who have contributed to our understanding of Martin Luther and his theology, Jared Wicks is among the very best. In this reprinted collection of essays a new generation of readers will glean fresh insights into the Wittenberg reformer, as Wicks places Luther within his proper late-medieval theological context and carefully teases out his unique contributions to understanding the church and justification (conversion). At the same time, Wicks situates Luther's theology within present conversations between Lutherans and Roman Catholics and proves again and again the important role that good, fair-minded historiography plays in aiding such dialogue. This collection will treat readers to, among other things, in-depth investigations of Luther's early theology of justification, of the connection between the sacraments and faith, and of the pastoral consequences for the simul iustus et peccator--all written in a winsome prose with careful attention to the original sources. It is a helpful addition to the library of anyone interested in understanding the now 500-year-old movement of reform within the church catholic and its implications for today."" Timothy Wengert Emeritus, United Theological Seminary Philadelphia United Lutheran Seminary Jared Wicks, SJ, gained his doctorate at the University of Munster with the dissertation, Man Yearning for Grace: Luther's Early Spiritual Teaching (1969). He brought out the studies of this collection while teaching at Jesuit School of Theology in Chicago and the Gregorian University in Rome. His Luther and His Spiritual Legacy (1982) is a Wipf & Stock reprint of 2016. He served on the world-level Lutheran-Catholic Commission on Unity from 1986 to 2006 and was a drafter of the Lutheran-Catholic Declaration on the Way: Church, Ministry, and Eucharist (2015). While scholar-in-residence at the Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus, Ohio, he published a retrospective essay, ""Half a Lifetime with Luther in Theology and Life,"" in Pro Ecclesia (2013).
