This book provides a theoretical background to X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and a practical guide to the analysis of the XPS spectra using the RxpsG software, a powerful tool for XPS analysis. Although there are several publications and books illustrating the theory behind XPS and the origin of the spectral feature, this book provides an additional practical introduction to the use of RxpsG. It illustrates how to use the RxpsG software to perform specific key operations, with figures and examples which readers can reproduce themselves. The book contains a list of theoretical sections explaining the appearance of the various spectral features (core‐lines, Auger components, valence bands, loss features, etc.). They are accompanied by practical steps, so readers can learn how to analyze specific spectral features using the various functions of the RxpsG software. This book is a useful guide for researchers in physics, chemistry, and material science who are looking to begin using XPS, in addition to experienced researchers who want to learn how to use RxpsG. In the digital format, the spectral data and step-by-step indications are provided to reproduce the examples given in the textbook. RxpsG is a free software for the spectral analysis. Readers can find the installation information and download the package from https://github.com/GSperanza/ website. RxpsG was developed mainly by Giorgio Speranza with the help of his colleague dr. Roberto Canteri working at Fondazione Bruno Kessler. Key Features: Simplifies the use of RxpsG, how it works, and its applications. Demonstrates RxpsG using a reproduction of the graphical interface of RxpsG, showing the steps needed to perform a specific task and the effect on the XPS spectra. Accessible to readers without any prior experience using the RxpsG software. Giorgio Speranza is Senior Researcher at Fondazione Bruno Kessler – Trento Italy, Associate Member of the Italian National Council of Research, and Associate Member of the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Trento, Italy.

A powerful collection of new and recently completed poems by Ben Okri covering topics of the day, such as the refugee crisis, racism, Obama, the Grenfell Tower fire, and the Corona outbreak. In our times of crisis The mind has its powers This book brings together many of Ben Okri's most acclaimed and politically charged poems. Some of them, like 'Grenfell Tower, June 2017', are already familiar. Published in the Financial Times less than ten days after the fire, it was played more than 6 million times on Channel 4's Facebook page, and was retweeted by thousands on Twitter. 'Notre-Dame is Telling Us Something' was first read on BBC Radio 4, in the aftermath of the cathedral's near destruction. It spoke eloquently of the despair that was felt around the world. In 'shaved head poem', Ben Okri wrote of the confusion and anxiety felt as the world grappled with a health crisis unprecedented in our times. 'Breathing the Light' was his response to the events of summer 2020, when a black man died beneath the knee of a white policeman, a tragedy sparking a movement for change. These poems, and others including poems for Ken Saro-Wiwa, Barack Obama, Amnesty and more, make this a uniquely powerful collection that blends anger and tenderness with Ben Okri's inimitable vision.

Reporter Sally Hayden was at home in London when she received a message on Facebook: “Hi sister Sally, we need your help.” The sender identified himself as an Eritrean refugee who had been held in a Libyan detention center for months, locked in one big hall with hundreds of others. Now, the city around them was crumbling in a scrimmage between warring factions, and they remained stuck, defenseless, with only one remaining hope: contacting her. Hayden had inadvertently stumbled onto a human rights disaster of epic proportions. From this single message begins a staggering account of the migrant crisis across North Africa, in a groundbreaking work of investigative journalism. With unprecedented access to people currently inside Libyan detention centers, Hayden’s book is based on interviews with hundreds of refugees and migrants who tried to reach Europe and found themselves stuck in Libya once the EU started funding interceptions in 2017. It is an intimate portrait of life for these detainees, as well as a condemnation of NGOs and the United Nations, whose abdication of international standards will echo throughout history. But most importantly, My Fourth Time, We Drowned shines a light on the resilience of humans: how refugees and migrants locked up for years fall in love, support each other through the hardest times, and carry out small acts of resistance in order to survive in a system that wants them to be silent and disappear.

Ways Of Being written by James Bridle and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-04-07 with Psychology categories.
'Heady, exhilarating, often astonishing' New York Times 'Iridescently original, deeply disorientating and yet somehow radically hopeful ... worth reading and rereading' Brian Eno 'Be prepared to re-evaluate your relationship with the amazing life forms with whom we share the planet. Fascinating, innovative and thought provoking: I thoroughly recommend Ways of Being' Dr Jane Goodall, DBE Recent years have seen rapid advances in 'artificial' intelligence, which increasingly appears to be something stranger than we ever imagined. At the same time, we are becoming more aware of the other intelligences which have been with us all along, unrecognized. These other beings are the animals, plants, and natural systems that surround us, and are slowly revealing their complexity and knowledge - just as the new technologies we've built are threatening to cause their extinction, and ours. In Ways of Being, writer and artist James Bridle considers the fascinating, uncanny and multiple ways of existing on earth. What can we learn from these other forms of intelligence and personhood, and how can we change our societies to live more equitably with one another and the non-human world? From Greek oracles to octopuses, forests to satellites, Bridle tells a radical new story about ecology, technology and intelligence. We must, they argue, expand our definition of these terms to build a meaningful and free relationship with the non-human, one based on solidarity and cognitive diversity. We have so much to learn, and many worlds to gain.

The new book is again in two sections, the first providing details of the major cruise ships operating world-wide and the second, the fleets of major shipping companies operating deep-sea routes to major European ports. As previously, IMO numbers, expanded vessel descriptions and cargo capacities have been retained.
