Rationale Unternehmensfuhrung setzt ein Informationssystem voraus, das es erlaubt, die Auswirkungen siimtlicher Entscheidungsalternativen unter den dabei zu beruck sichtigenden EinfluP.faktoren vorausschauend zu ermitteln und ruckwirkend fur die realisierten MaP.nahmen zu kontrollieren. Dazu reicht es angesichts der Unvorherseh barkeit vieler Fragestellungen und ihrer speziellen Gegebenheiten nicht aus, Kosten und Erl6se periodisch im Hinblick auf bestimmte Zwecke zu verarbeiten. Vielmehr gilt es, eine Datenbasis aufzubauen, aus der heraus aile wesentlichen, im Entwurfs zeitpunkt noch n icht notwendigerweise bekannten Fragestellungen der Unternehmens fuhrung bezuglich ihrer Erfolgs- und Liquiditatswirkung beurteilt werden k6nnen. Diese umfassende Aufgabe laP.t sich nur durch eine Aufspaltung des Rechnungswe sens in eine universell auswertbare, zweckneutrale "Grundrechnung" einerseits und in eine Fulle standardisierter und fallweiser Auswertungsrechnungen, die spezifisch auf die Ad ressa ten, Zwecke, Fragestellungen und Situationen zugeschnitten sind, anderer seits bewaltigen. Dieser auf Schmalenbach und Goetz zuruckgehende Gedanke wurde vor allem in der relativen Einzelkosten-und Deckungsbeitragsrechnung aufgegriffen und konzeptionell weiterentwickelt. Infolge der Vielzahl bedeutsam erscheinender MaP.nahmen, Vorgange und Zustande (Untersuchungs- und Bezugsobjekte) sowie sonstiger Differenzierungskriterien, besonders aber durch die Vieldimensionalitat der Untersuchungsobjekte und ihre Einbettung in ein vieldimensional verknupftes, zeitlich fortschreitendes GesamtgefGge von Vorgangen, ist die Verwirklichung mit konventionellen Mitteln, selbst unter Anwendung der EDV, bisher nur in ausschnitts weiser und verdichteter Form aus verschiedenen Sichten m6glich. An dieser Mangelsituation setzt die Problemstellung der vorliegenden Arbeit an.

Rationale Unternehmensführung erfordert konstituierend ein Informationssystem, das es erlaubt, die Auswirkungen sämtlicher betrieblicher Ereignisse auf den Unternehmenserfolg vorausschauend zu ermitteln und im nachhinein zu kontrollieren. Der Autor zeigt, wie die an dieser Anforderung orientierte Einzelkosten- und Deckungsbeitragsrechnung DV-gestützt realisiert werden kann. Dazu werden sowohl die grundlegenden Prinzipien, nach denen dieses Informationssystem zu gestalten ist, als auch dessen Komponenten untersucht. Insbesondere wird der konzeptionelle Aufbau einer zweckneutralen Datensammlung ("Grundrechnung") beschrieben. Außerdem werden solche Hilfsmittel untersucht, die den unterschiedlichen Typen betrieblicher Entscheider Zugang zu dieser Datensammlung verschaffen (z.B. relationales Datenbanksystem, Datenmanipulationssprache, Benutzerführung, Daten- und Methodenauskunftssystem). Die Erweiterungen der 3. Auflage ergänzen die bisherigen konzeptionellen Ausführungen unter dem Gesichtspunkt der heutigen DV-technischen Realisierbarkeit bei großem Datenvolumen.

The first English-language edition of this book was published in 1989 under the title "Enterprise-Wide Data Modelling." It introduced a new enterprise data model that has since gone on to enjoy widespread use as a reference model. Since that time, the author has continued to develop the representation of application problems, both on a theoretical basis using modeling languages and on a practical basis using real-world studies. This has led to so many new aspects that this second English-language edition (the original German version is now in its fifth edition) constitutes a completely new book. The new title expresses the stricter emphasis on business processes in contrast to the previous edition, which was geared more toward a functional structure. This approach reflects the trend toward process oriented structural and procedural organization in enterprises that is currently being supported by new means of information processing. Perhaps the most obvious way in which the second English-language edition differs from the first is in the increased number of pages. This is a direct result of the higher degree of detail and the more thorough problem description presented in the new edition. The degree of detail has increased in the case of those problems that are particularly important in terms of selecting and designing information systems in an industrial enterprise, e.g., the product description and CAM factory organization. This approach provides greater reality and thus facilitates a better understanding of the complex organism that is an industrial enterprise.

This strongly empirical approach is accompanied by a disinclination to consider actual system deSign: this is considered the responsibility of the software houses. This partitioning. however. leaves untapped the considerable potential which could be realized by an interdisciplinary approach from computer science and business economics. An isolated approach neglects both the effects that business economics can have on the implementation of EDP techniques. and the structural impact of EDP on business economics.
