Die zweite Level-One Studie untersucht die Lese- und Schreibkompetenzen oder auch Literalität der deutschsprechenden Wohnbevölkerung zwischen 18 und 64 Jahren. Ziel der Studie ist es, die Größenordnung des Phänomens "geringe Literalität" sichtbar zu machen. Sie untersucht den Umgang mit geringer Literalität im Alltag und in gesellschaftsrelevanten Bereichen. Über 12 Prozent der Erwachsenen sind gering literalisiert. Die Studie veröffentlicht aber nicht nur Daten zur Größenordnung geringer Literalität. Sie beschreibt auch detailliert die alltäglichen Lese- und Schreibpraktiken gering literalisierter Erwachsener. In dieser Publikation werden erstmals die gesundheits-, politik- und finanzbezogenen und die digitalen Grundkompetenzen gering literalisierter Erwachsener ausführlich und zusammenhängend dargestellt. LEO 2018 schreibt die Ergebnisse der ersten Erhebung fort, die 2010 den damals so bezeichneten "funktionalen Analphabetismus" in Deutschland erstmals umfassend dokumentierte und für großes Aufsehen sorgte.

A decade after the collapse of communism, this volume presents a historical reflection on the perplexing nature of the East German dictatorship. In contrast to most political rhetoric, it seeks to establish a middle ground between totalitarianism theory, stressing the repressive features of the SED-regime, and apologetics of the socialist experiment, emphasizing the normality of daily lives. The book transcends the polarization of public debate by stressing the tensions and contradictions within the East German system that combined both aspects by using dictatorial means to achieve its emancipatory aims. By analyzing a range of political, social, cultural, and chronological topics, the contributors sketch a differentiated picture of the GDR which emphasizes both its repressive and its welfare features. Um die Potenziale digitaler Anwendungen intensiver zu beleuchten, wurden 2021 beim Symposium Lernen digital an der Technischen Universität in Chemnitz zum dritten Mal Ideen und Erkenntnisse führender Wissenschaftler:innen und engagierter Praktiker:innen zusammengetragen und diskutiert. Die forcierte Vernetzung über die Fachdidaktiken hinaus konnte abermals bewirken, dass Aktivitäten und Erkenntnisse zusammengetragen werden, die den Einsatz digitaler Medien nicht nur aus mediendidaktischer bzw. -pädagogischer Perspektive reflektieren, sondern vorrangig fachdidaktische Fragen in den Blick nehmen. In diesem Buch werden die wesentlichen Beiträge zusammengefasst, um sie an Forscher:innen sowie Pratiker:innen in Schulen aber auch der Lehreraus- und -weiterbildung weiterzugeben.
