Die Pädagogik in der DDR ist auch mehrere Jahrzehnte nach dem Ende des sozialistischen Staates ein ebenso faszinierendes wie kontrovers diskutiertes Thema, an dem sich die Geister scheiden. Die bisherige bildungshistorische Forschung nutzt zahlreiche Quellen, um die Unterrichtswirklichkeit an DDR-Schulen nachzuzeichnen und aufzuklären, dennoch bleiben viele Fragen offen. Der vorliegende erste Band der Reihe Beiträge zur Geschichte der Pädagogik in der DDR widmet sich einer neuen, wenig bekannten und weitgehend ungewürdigten Quelle, den Pädagogischen Lesungen. Es handelt sich dabei um Erfahrungsberichte von DDR- Pädagog*innen, verschriftlicht mit dem Ziel, gute Erfahrungen und innovative Vorschläge an Fachkolleg*innen weiterzugeben. Das Themenspektrum der Berichte umfasst unterrichtliche Themen aller Schularten, -stufen und fächer ebenso wie vor- und außerschulische Fragen. Diese Erfahrungsberichte erlauben einen Einblick in die DDR-Pädagogik, der eine deutlich größere Nähe zur Praxis aufweist als andere Quellentypen. Sie illustrieren gleichsam die ,Best-Practice' und können so bereits bekanntes Quellenmaterial fruchtbar ergänzen. Dieses Buch versammelt erste und zugleich umfangreiche Forschungsergebnisse zum Thema Pädagogische Lesungen. In einem grundlegenden Teil werden diese sowohl in Charakter und Entstehungskontext erläutert, als auch im System der Lehrerweiterbildung sowie im Kanon unterrichtsvorbereitender Literatur verortet. Zwei weitere Teile des Buches widmen sich den pädagogischen Lesungen zum Literaturunterricht sowie zum Thema Hilfsschule. Bereits die Analyse einzelner Teile des erhaltenen Gesamtkorpus von Lesungen zeigt, dass diese Berichte einen wertvollen Beitrag zu einer noch differenzierteren Annäherung an die Wirklichkeit der DDR-Pädagogik leisten können.

Der dritte Band der Reihe Beiträge zur Geschichte der Pädagogik in der DDR knüpft insofern an die ersten beiden Bände an, als er die organisatorischen Strukturen des Weiterbildungsformats Pädagogische Lesungen in den Blick nimmt. Dabei stehen allerdings nicht Zeitzeug*innen, die selbst als Autor*innen aktiv oder in der Administration tätig waren, im Vordergrund, sondern es werden u.a. mit den zentralen Konzeptionen, den Auswertungsberichten sowie dem in den Akten befindlichen Schriftverkehr bislang wenig beachtete Archivalien herangezogen, um die organisatorischen Rahmen- sowie Entstehungs- und Entwicklungsbedingungen der Pädagogischen Lesungen in der DDR aus Sicht der administrativen (Leitungs-)Ebene zu untersuchen. Hierunter fällt zum einen der Prozess der Weitergabe von der Kreisebene bis hin zum zentralen Ausscheid, dessen Selektionskriterien als eine Basis für die Beurteilung und Popularisierung der ,Best practice'-Niederschriften bis dato nur am Rande betrachtet werden. Dabei gilt es u.a. zu rekonstruieren, ob und welche Kriterien existierten und inwieweit sie innerhalb der drei Dekaden Änderungen o.Ä. unterlagen. Zum anderen geraten auch die Zentralen Tage der Pädagogischen Lesungen in den Fokus, weil sie schließlich den alljährlichen Zenit dieses Selektionsprozesses sowie der Popularisierung darstellten. Dabei scheint es insbesondere wichtig, mithilfe des gewählten Quellenmaterials weitere Einblicke in die intendierten Funktionen dieser Großveranstaltung(en), den Teilnehmer*innenkreis oder hinsichtlich der erfolgten Dezentralisierung in ihre organisatorische Entwicklung zu ermöglichen.
