J.C. Baud was de langst dienende minister onder koning Willem II (1840-1849). Hij stond aan het hoofd van het Departement van Koloniën, dat van cruciale betekenis was voor het herstel van de overheidsfinanciën. Het was de tijd waarin de Nederlandse staat nagenoeg bankroet was en slechts op de been werd gehouden door de koloniale baten die op Java met het Cultuurstelsel werden verkregen. Kort na de troonsbestijging van Willem II begon Baud aantekening te houden van de wekelijkse gesprekken die hij met de koning voerde over het koloniale beleid en ook over de binnenlandse politiek, in het bijzonder de herziening van de grondwet. Baud heeft deze aantekeningen tot het einde van zijn ministerschap volgehouden. Zo ontstond een uniek document dat nagenoeg het hele koningschap van Willem II beslaat, namelijk de periode van januari 1841 tot maart 1848. De vijf kleine boekjes waarin Baud zijn aantekeningen maakte, zijn altijd in familiebezit gebleven en hebben daar decennia lang een onzichtbaar bestaan geleid. Door het vaak onleesbare handschrift was het niet eenvoudig om de aantekeningen op juiste waarde te schatten. Systematische studie met aanvullende toelichting heeft van een reeks fragmentarische notities een spannend politiek verhaal gemaakt. Dit boek werpt niet alleen een nieuw licht op het omstreden koningschap van Willem II, maar gunt de lezer ook een blik in het politieke besluitvormingproces gedurende een periode waarin nog geen sprake was van volledige ministeriële verantwoordelijkheid. De aantekeningen illustreren de vooraanstaande rol die Baud als staatsman heeft gespeeld.

Heinz Kremers (1926-1988) war einer der Pioniere des christlich-jüdischen Dialogs nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg in Deutschland. Als Professor an der PH Kettwig und später an der Mercator-Universität Duisburg bereitete er theologisch-wissenschaftlich und später aktiv als Synodaler die epochemachende Synodalerklärung der Evangelischen Kirche im Rheinland zur Erneuerung des christlichen-jüdischen Verhältnisses (1980) vor. Auch war er wesentlich an der Gründung von Nes Ammim, einer christlichen Siedlung im Norden Israels beteiligt, die einen Dialog mit Juden führt und dabei auf jegliche Form der Judenmission verzichtet. Für seine Lebensleistung erhielt er 1986 die Buber-Rosenzweig-Medaille. Der vorliegende Sammelband versammelt einen Querschnitt überwiegend unveröffentlichter Beiträge aus seinem Nachlass. Im Zentrum seiner Theologie stand die Entwicklung einer nicht-antijüdischen Christologie. Deshalb wird der Sammelband inhaltlich auf diese Fragestellung hin fokussiert. Ergänzt werden diese Beiträge um eine biografische Einführung in Kremers Leben und Werk durch Thomas Kremers und eine Analyse des Beitrags von Heinz Kremers zur Entwicklung einer nicht-antijüdischen Christologie von Berthold Klappert. Hinzu kommen Interpretationen und Weiterführungen dieser Beiträge, u. a. zur nicht-antijüdischen Christologie, seiner Talmudexegese und der Bedeutung des christlich-jüdischen Dialogs für die Ekklesiologie. Zu den BeiträgerInnen gehören neben den Herausgebern Weggefährten, Freunde und Autoren der nachfolgenden Generation (Yehuda Aschkenasy, David Flusser, Simon Schoon, Klaus Müller, Volker Haarmann, Katja Kriener und Rainer Stuhlmann).

The rules presented in this volume of "Principles of European Law" deal with commercial agency, franchise and distribution contracts, and with other contracts where one party uses the other party's skill and efforts to bring its products to the market. Although these Principles are not directly applicable to other long-term (commercial) contracts, some of the Articles may be applied to such contracts by way of analogy where appropriate. The economic function of all three contracts is that they are instrumental in bringing products to the market. They are so-called vertical agreements, as they are agreements between economic actors on different levels in the production and distribution chain. Obviously, the economic importance of these contracts is enormous since they form the connection between producers and retailers who sell the products to consumers and other final users. There are only very few economic sectors where producers regularly sell their products directly to final consumer users. Goodwill compensation after the ending of a distribution contract, the moment at which the agent's commission is due, the franchisor's obligation to maintain the good reputation of the network are but a few examples of issues where specific rules are needed in order to give legal practice some guidance and to provide practitioners with a reasonable degree of legal certainty.

(Chapters 11 to 14) summarise important features of the biological clock at the level of whole animal covering all vertebrate classes (fish to mammal). Chapters 15 and 16 are on long term (seasonal) rhythms in plants and higher vertebrates. Short term rhythms (ultradian rhythms), the significance of having a clock system in animals living in extreme (arctic) environments, and the diversity of circadian responses to melatonin, the key endocrine element involved in regulation of biological rhythms, have been discussed in Chapters 17 to 19. Finally, a chapter on sensitivity to light of the photoperiodic clock is added which, using vertebrate examples, illustrates the importance of wavelength and intensity of light on circadian and non-circadian functions. A well-known expert writes each chapter. When presenting information, the text provides consistent thematic coverage and feeling for the methods of investigation. Reference citation within the body of the text adequately reflects the literature as subject is developed. A chapter begins with an abstract that enables a reader to know at the first glance the important points covered in that chapter.
