In beide opvattingen schuilt waarheid.

Beyond The Paradox Of The Nostalgic Modernist written by Elisabeth M. Donato and has been published by Peter Lang this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Time in literature categories.

This investigation of J.-K. Huysmans' representation of temporality sheds light on the complex and paradoxical nature of this late-nineteenth-century novelist and art critic, who was a modernist steeped in nostalgia as well as a nostalgic steeped in modernity. To unveil and understand the mechanisms and logic of this paradox, Elisabeth M. Donato examines Huysmans' characters' dealings with measured time and schedules, investigates the failure of des Esseintes' aesthetic experiment, and relates the novelist's construct of «spiritualist naturalism» to his increasingly frequent and intense longings for his own medieval utopia. Donato's new perspective onto the intricate relationship between modernity and nostalgia underscores Huysmans' firm and very modern stance à rebours of commonality in his never ending search for a solution to his dilemma.

The Changing Mile Revisited written by and has been published by University of Arizona Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-05 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The Changing Mile, originally published in 1965, was a benchmark in ecological studies, demonstrating the prevalence of change in a seemingly changeless place. Photographs made throughout the Sonoran Desert region in the late 1800s and early 1900s were juxtaposed with photographs of the same locations taken many decades later. The nearly one hundred pairs of images revealed that climate has played a strong role in initiating many changes in the region. This new book updates the classic by adding recent photographs to the original pairs, providing another three decades of data and showing even more clearly the extent of change across the landscape. During these same three decades, abundant information about climatic variability, land use, and plant ecology has accumulated, making it possible to determine causes of change with more confidence. Using nearly two hundred additional triplicate sets of unpublished photographs, The Changing Mile Revisited utilizes repeat photographs selected from almost three hundred stations located in southern Arizona, in the Pinacate region of Mexico, and along the coast of the Gulf of California. Coarse photogrammetric analysis of this enlarged photographic set shows the varied response of the region's major plant species to the forces of change. The images show vegetation across the entire region at sites ranging in elevation from sea level to a mile above sea level. Some sites are truly arid, while others are located above the desert in grassland and woodland. Common names are used for most plants and animals (with Latin equivalents in endnotes) to make the book more accessible to non-technical readers. The original Changing Mile was based upon a unique set of data that allowed the authors to evaluate the extent and magnitude of vegetation change in a large geographic region. By extending the original landmark study, The Changing Mile Revisited will remain an indispensable reference for all concerned with the fragile desert environment.

Sovereignty And Intelligence written by John Michael Archer and has been published by Stanford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with History categories.

"The book examines the configurations of surveillance, sovereignty, and the accompanying forms of subjectivity and knowledge in the transition to modernity. The association of sovereignty with intelligence extended far beyond the identification of sovereignty with the personal power of the sovereign. In Montaigne's France, sovereignty appeared in a disseminated form. Montaigne's Essais exemplify the situation of the courtier self-fashioned to serve an absent sovereign; like Lacan's subject, he is looked at from all sides. Montaigne's description of the search for self-knowledge as self-spying reveals how deeply this quest was implicated in a culture of courtly surveillance. At Elizabeth's court, observation evolved into political espionage based on a system of courtly patronage and employed as a means of policing sexuality centered on the unmarried monarch. Sidney's Arcadia inscribes ways of coping, with the anxieties produced by this surveillance-fraught environment.".

Postcritical Management Studies written by Ghislain Deslandes and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023 with Management science categories.

This book is the first of its kind to offer a new definition of contemporary management. It uses Henrys philosophy and takes the real, sensitive and pathetic subjectivity of individuals as the starting point of the analysis as opposed to the usual large categories of representations; resources; images; and discourses. This book thus proposes to rethink management by insisting on the dialectic of strength and vulnerability; its power of constraint, imitation and imagination; and finally its framework of action situated in a fourfold concern for the self, for people, for institutions and for the environment. These different notions are useful in order to experience a deeper understanding of management that is free from the obsolescence of the distant recommendations of ancient protomanagement and the outdated and dubious prescriptions of the so-called scientific management.
