Annales Gandenses written by Hilda Johnstone and has been published by Oxford University Press on Demand this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1985 with History categories.

These vivid Annals, written by a Franciscan friar in Ghent c.1308-10, describe events in the Low Countries between 1297 and 1310. The introduction shows their relation to the rivalry of Philip IV of France and Edward I of England -- and this in its turn was a remarkable episode in the historyof a land torn between its political intimacy with the French crown and its economic links with England. But its interest is even greater than this, as Bryce Lyon pointed out in a generous review of the present volume when it first appeared. The central event in it is the Battle of Courtrai in 1302,when the Flemish burghers destroyed the army of Philip IV -- and the Annals show 'how Courtrai and the events about it were in large part products of the social and economic turmoil of industrial Flanders'.This edition is reprinted from the original published in the Nelson's Medieval Classics series in 1951.

According To Mary written by Marianne Fredriksson and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-10-03 with Bible fiction categories.

Long after the death of Christ, Mary Magdalene is married to a silk merchant, Leonidas. She lives a quiet and harmonious life until, one day, the apostle Peter comes to the market square to preach and she slips into the crowd to hear what he has to say. She is not impressed, and wants to forget that Jesus chose death, not life with her. But she has reckoned without the apostles who persuade her to write down everything she can remember. Mary starts with her Jewish childhood and the slaughter of her family by the Romans. Running for her life, she is rescued by Leonidas who leaves her in a 'house of pleasure' where she grows into a beautiful woman. Then she meets and falls deeply in love with a young man from Nazareth - and her life changes. . . Marianne Fredriksson masterfully breathes new life into the figure of Mary Magdalene in this novel of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, seen through the eyes of the woman who loved him most.

West And The Rest written by Roger Scruton and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-07-15 with Political Science categories.

In this astonishing new book, Roger Scruton argues that to understand adequately the roots of Islamic terrorism, one must understand both the unique historical evolution of the state and the dynamic of globalization. With extraordinary perception, Scruton reveals the philosophical and theological roots of the current clash of civilizations. He addresses issues such as the conflict between Islam and secular law, notions of citizenship, fulfilling the human need for belonging, and why globalization provokes such an apparent desire for revenge against the West in some Islamic minds. Scruton's sober, well-informed narrative raises fundamental questions about the West's ability to recover and defend its own religious heritage while delimiting the harmful effects of its decadent hyper-individualism and the culture of repudiation it has sparked both within its own societies and the societies it touches. Finally, Scruton calls for the West to re-examine some of its assumptions about such matters as immigration, multiculturalism, progress and prosperity.
