Dus niet alleen actiefilms, maar natuurlijk ook enge. Haar vriend Theo hield niet van schimmige films, maar vooral van enge en alles wat daar ook maar een beetje mee te maken had, vond hij weerzinwekkend, zonder dat hij daar ooit een reden voor gaf. "Dus ik ga alleen!" had ze geconcludeerd, en Teo had onverschillig zijn schouders opgehaald. Hij had er niets op tegen. Wat had het voor zin? Per slot van rekening hoefde hij "zoiets" zichzelf niet aan te doen.

"Silent cinema" may rarely have been silent, but the sheer diversity of sound(s) and sound/image relations characterizing the first 20 years of moving picture exhibition can still astonish us.
