Als er werkelijk fundamentele veranderingen gaande zijn, kunnen die consequenties hebben voor het overheidsbeleid. De daartoe ingestelde denktank Infodrome, onder leiding van Rick van der Ploeg, heeft onder meer een aantal wetenschappers gevraagd om het onderzoek naar de invloed van ict op de samenleving binnen hun discipline in kaart te brengen. In De invloed van ict op maatschappij en overheid zijn drie interessante studies gebundeld: Sociaal-psychologische effecten van ict ’s en hun beleidsimplicaties, Het conceptuele tekort (de wisselwerking tussen ICT en recht) en e-conomie: ICT en marktwerking.

This book contains essays in honour of Claus Weddepohl who, after 22 years, is retiring as professor of mathematical economics at the Department of Quantitative Economics of the University of Amsterdam. Claus Weddepohl may be viewed as th~ first Dutch mathematical economist in the general equi librium tradition of Arrow, Debreu and Hahn. The essays in this book are centered around the themes Equilibrium, Markets and Dynamics, that have been at the heart of Weddepohl's work on mathematical economics for more than three decades. The essays have been classified according to these three themes. Admittedly such a classification always is somewhat arbitrary, and most essays would in fact fit into two or even all three themes. The essays have been written by international as well as Dutch friends and colleagues including Weddepohl's former Ph. D. students. The book starts with a review of Claus Weddepohl's work by Roald Ramer, who has been working with him in Amsterdam for all those years. The review describes how Weddepohl became fascinated by general equilibrium theory in the early stages of his career, how he has been working on the theory of markets throughout his career, and how he turned to applications of nonlinear dynamics to price adjustment processes in a later stage of his career. The first part of the book, Equilibrium, collects essays with general equilib rium theory as the main theme.

Geo-informatie is informatie met een ruimtelijke component: waar bevindt zich wat? Overheidsorganisaties gebruiken dagelijks geo-informatie in allerlei toepassingen en werkprocessen. Vanwege de grote maatschappelijke en economische betekenis is de geo-informatievoorziening een belangrijke taak van de Nederlandse overheid. Het delen van geo-informatie ligt erg voor de hand: overheidsorganisaties zijn nauw verweven en veel geo-bestanden zijn generiek toepasbaar. Toch verloopt de samenwerking via de nationale geo-informatie infrastructuur niet altijd vlekkeloos. De informatiearchipel presenteert een Strategisch Positiemodel Geo-ICT-functie waarmee het mogelijk wordt om grip te krijgen op de dynamiek tussen de ontwikkeling van overheidsorganisaties, hun geo-informatievoorziening en de nationale geo-informatie infrastructuur. Daarnaast biedt het model aanknopingspunten om die infrastructuur beter af te stemmen op de betrokken overheidsorganisaties en de bijbehorende Geo-ICT-functie. Het sleutelwoord in een succesvolle afstemming is ’verbinding’: als de ontwikkeling van betrokken overheidsorganisaties en de daarbij behorende Geo-ICT-functie optimaal verbonden zijn, is de kans op maatschappelijk rendement het grootst.
