Stel: je wordt wakker, en je ligt in coma. Het overkomt Freddy de Keizer: half Indo, half havenarbeider (soms filmster en escortman), koppig en ongelovig. Meer dan zijn leren jas, zijn Harley, vrouwen, zijn werk, en Rotterdam, zijn stad heeft hij niet nodig: in coma is hij dezelfde man. Freddy leeft door: in zijn eigen versie van het hiernamaals berijdt hij op zijn Harley de hemel boven Rotterdam. Hij blijft driftig bazen over zijn roemruchte rijk. Meerdere landgenoten hebben de voortgang van hun leven aan hem te danken: het zijn trouwe volgelingen geworden. Daarnaast is hij een welkome ontsnapping aan sleur, waar vooral vrouwen dankbaar gebruik van maken. Voor de Keizer bestaat er geen socialer beroep dan dat van de escort. Hij zou er een oorkonde voor moeten krijgen, een plakkaat voor zijn meesterschap in de vrouwelijke psyche. Zonder morren hoort hij zijn vrouwen aan, met tot slot de grote beurt. Zijn vaste clientèle noemt hem niet voor niets de vrouwenfluisteraar. Niet alleen de achterbuurt waar hij woont, behoort tot veroverd gebied. In heel Rotterdam wordt Freddy de Keizer gerespecteerd en gevreesd, op de plaatsen waar de volkse mens zich ophoudt. Zij spreken hem simpelweg aan met: Keizer. Hij strijdt met een zelfbedacht wetboek in de hand, zijn vurige hekel aan draaikonterij gebiedt hem. Voordat Freddy in coma raakte, ontmoette hij de succesvolle reclameman Prem Palladhsingh, wiens leven hij ooit redde. Door stom toeval ontmoette de Keizer ook Prems avontuurlijke vrouw, Karen. De stoppen van de Keizer sloegen door. Hij voelde wat hij nooit eerder heeft gevoeld. Liefde, allesverterende passie, deze vrouw maakte alle denkbare cliché's over l'amour fou bij hem los.
