European Anthropologies written by Andrés Barrera-González and has been published by Berghahn Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-08-01 with Social Science categories.

In what ways did Europeans interact with the diversity of people they encountered on other continents in the context of colonial expansion, and with the peasant or ethnic ‘Other’ at home? How did anthropologists and ethnologists make sense of the mosaic of people and societies during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, when their disciplines were progressively being established in academia? By assessing the diversity of European intellectual histories within sociocultural anthropology, this volume aims to sketch its intellectual and institutional portrait. It will be a useful reading for the students of anthropology, ethnology, history and philosophy of science, research and science policy makers.

Sociocultural Psychology On The Regional Scale written by Tania Zittoun and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-12-12 with Psychology categories.

This brief presents the case study of a hill in Czech Republic (Říp) and its region, and contributes to theorization in sociocultural psychology on three points, along three current debates. First, it contributes to the exploration of the mutual constitution of the lifecourse and of history, uses a distinction between socio-, micro- and ontogenesis, and argues that a focus on a delimited geographical space enables to better observe the processes by which history, daily situated interactions and courses of life shape each other. Second, in doing so, it sketches an understanding of the role of the material, spatial and semiotic specificities of landscapes in human development. Especially, it identifies some of the processes by which redundant dynamic patterns present in the environment may participate to the guidance of human experience. Third, it expands the reflection on case study construction and generalization. On the one side, it participates to a current debate in cultural psychology on the dynamics of generalization from single cases; on the other, it also dialogues with a more general reflection in the social sciences on social dynamics at the scale of small regions. Altogether, this brief is a first attempt to examine jointly these questions at the scale of a small region, a unique natural laboratory of social and psychological change. It will be of interest to researchers as well as graduate students in the fields of cultural and sociocultural psychology, cognitive psychology, and the social sciences.

In the wake of the upheavals caused by the shift to a sedentary lifestyle in the 1950s, and after a long political struggle, Inuit societies are now obtaining forms of territorial autonomy. In Nunavut, and other places, a new partnership is being formed, and the government is counting on anthropologists to participate in this cultural renewal which draws on 'traditions' in order to face the challenges of the present. What is the significance of this partnership, and what is its ideological grounding? How have anthropologists reacted to the emergence of new procedures for access to the field and other deontological constraints? What of the status of elders, who have become central agents in pedagogical projects, as well as in an anthropology often geared to the idea of cultural salvage? What place can be made for an anthropology of youth, and how are the relationships between Inuit communities and Euro-Canadian society to be approached? This volume tackles these sensitive theoretical questions, and urges a distinctly reflexive practice in this constantly evolving context, one in which the scholar's civic engagement is highly valued.

Ethnographic Artifacts: Challenges to a Reflexive Anthropology examines anthropological practice and product, confronting issues of representation and the power of discourse in the lives and practice of both those doing research and of those being researched. Using eight case studies by ethnographers who share extensive research experience in the Pacific, the volume outlines "the trouble with ethnography" so representative of the end of this century, where ethnography itself is perceived as a codification of contested relations. Ethnographic Artifacts takes a unique approach to the social life of ethnography. The editors identify three domains in which ethnographic artifacts are given meaning: as text, as object, and as a historically contrived representation of the community in the public sphere. By allowing that analysis of the life of ethnography is important in all three of these domains, appreciation moves beyond narrow rhetorical and textual concerns. The volume provides a multi-faceted means for the reflexive understanding of the production, distribution, and reception of ethnography. Its goal is not mere documentation but rather the assessment of the ethical dimensions of the discipline's practice in a globalizing world. By melding ethical concerns with reflection on the text and the object itself, Ethnographic Artifacts adds dimension to the now well-established reflexive literature. Contributors: Niko Besnier, Jonathan Friedman, Michael Goldsmith, Sjoerd R. Jaarsma, Grant McCall, Mary N. MacDonald, Judith Macdonald, Toon van Meijl, Marta A. Rohatynskyj.

El Rigor De Lo Cualitativo written by Olivier de Sardan, Jean-Pierre and has been published by CIS this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-12-26 with categories.
