Een nieuwe 2024 vertaling van Heideggers vroege werk "De oorsprong van kunst", dat een van de 6 belangrijkste essays is van het werk "Holzwege" dat oorspronkelijk gepubliceerd werd in 1914. Deze editie bevat een nieuw nawoord van de vertaler, een tijdlijn van Heideggers leven en werk, een filosofische index van Heideggeriaanse kernbegrippen en een gids voor existentialistische terminologie van 19e en 20e eeuwse existentialisten. Deze vertaling is ontworpen met het oog op leesbaarheid en toegankelijkheid van Heideggers raadselachtige en dichte filosofie. Complexe en specifieke filosofische termen zijn zo letterlijk mogelijk vertaald en academische voetnoten zijn verwijderd om het lezen te vergemakkelijken. De oorsprong van de kunst (soms vertaald als "De oorsprong van de kunstwerken") is een van de fundamentele teksten van de 20e-eeuwse esthetiek. Heidegger onderzoekt de aard en essentie van kunst en haar rol in het onthullen van waarheid. Hij stelt dat kunst niet slechts een representatie of een kopie van de werkelijkheid is, maar dat het op unieke wijze de waarheid van het zijn naar voren brengt. Deze waarheid is volgens Heidegger geen objectieve, afstandelijke waarheid, maar eerder een openbaring van de wereld en onze plaats daarin. Kunstwerken, suggereert hij, creëren hun eigen wereld en nodigen de toeschouwer uit om die wereld te betreden en zo nieuwe manieren te openen om het zijn te ervaren en te begrijpen. Heidegger gebruikt voorbeelden uit verschillende kunstvormen, waaronder architectuur en poëzie, om zijn ideeën te illustreren. Heidegger gebruikt zijn concepten van Dasein "Zijn" (wat er zijn of bestaan betekent), "onthulling" (waarheid als een proces van onthulling) en "wereld" (de context van betekenis waarbinnen wezens verschijnen) in relatie tot het creëren van kunst. Deze concepten worden gebruikt om te onderzoeken hoe kunst in essentie niet slechts een esthetische ervaring is, maar een fundamentele manier om ons bezig te houden met de waarheid van ons bestaan. Dit begrip van esthetiek als tegengif voor de wreedheid van het bestaan is erg Nietzscheaans. De bundel waar dit artikel uit komt, Holzwege, is alleen na "Zijn en Tijd" beroemd. Hier geeft hij enkele van zijn meest scherpzinnige commentaren op Hegel, Descartes, Nietzsche, Anaximander, Rilke en Hölderlin. Houtpaden bestaat uit een verzameling essays die filosofische en existentiële vragen overdenken door middel van de analyse van kunst, poëzie en geschiedenis. De originele Duitse titel "Holzwege" verwijst naar de houthakkerspaden in Duitse bossen, waarvan iedereen die wel eens in Duitsland heeft gewandeld weet dat ze altijd doodlopen. Vandaar dat dit soms vertaald wordt als "doodlopende paden" of "houthakkerswegen" of "Buiten de gebaande paden" of iets in die trant, want dit is wat de titel betekent - de doodlopende paden van de filosofie en de inherente obscuriteit van het streven naar het Zijn. Heidegger gebruikt deze essays om zijn ontologische onderzoeken te verkennen, met name de aard van het zijn en de relatie tussen mensen en de wereld om hen heen.

The opening of Sigmund Bing’s gallery L’Art Nouveau had been an eagerly expected event in the Paris art world throughout the latter half of 1895, since Bing first announced that he would be soon exhibiting artistic furniture. The doors finally opened on 26 December 1895 as visitors poured in at 22 Rue de Provence to admire Bing’s collection. Beginning with Bing’s special feeling for Asian art, the author discusses his many other eclectic interests in art. Over 300 colour illustrations show the objects that were traded in his gallery: Tiffany glass, paintings and sculptures by Henri Toulouse Lautrec, Rodin, Claudel and Vuillard, as well furniture, ceramics and jewellery by Van de Velde, Colonna, De Feure and Gaillard. The book is based on extensive archive research, tracing destinations of the art objects that Bing traded to collectors and museums or sponsored personally. The authors show how one man, an art dealer, became an international trendsetter who influenced the canon in Europe and the US. The result is a renewed appreciation of Sigmund Bing’s role as the principal founder of the new style that carries the name of his gallery: Art Nouveau.

This volume explores the relationship between temporality and presence in medieval artworks from the third to the sixteenth centuries. It is the first extensive treatment of the interconnections between medieval artworks' varied presences and their ever-shifting places in time. The volume begins with reflections on the study of temporality and presence in medieval and early modern art history. A second section presents case studies delving into the different ways medieval artworks once created and transformed their original viewers' experience of the present.
