An art collector who was a patient at the Amsterdam Medical Center once expressed his gratitude with a donation of several works of art, the seed for the extraordinary modern art collection that now flourishes at the Amsterdam Medical Center. Since it began seriously cultivating its art collection in the 1980s, the Center has amassed approximately 5,000 works by Dutch and Dutch-resident artists. The Amsterdam Medical Center Art Book is an extraordinary showcase of the Center’s rich and diverse collection, which focuses on Dutch art from the 1950s through the 1970s. The book highlights several stunning examples within the collection of such benchmark art movements as CoBrA, Mixed Media Art, Zero Art, and New Figuration. Other fascinating pieces featured in the book were created by artists-in-residence, who were allowed to draw from live scenes in the Center’s operating theater and maternity ward. This volume ultimately presents a fascinating survey of Dutch post-war art, with over 100 vibrant color illustrations that include works by Eugene Brands, Karel Appel, Constant, Marc Mulders, Roy Villevoye, and Marlene Dumas.

One hundred years after the founding of the École Coloniale Supérieure in Antwerp, the adjacent Middelheim Museum invites Sandrine Colard, researcher and curator, to conceive an exhibition that probes silenced histories of colonialism in a site-specific way. For Colard, the term Congoville encompasses the tangible and intangible urban traces of the colony, not on the African continent but in 21st-century Belgium: a school building, a park, imperial myths, and citizens of African descent. In the exhibition and this adjoining publication, the concept Congoville is the starting point for 15 contemporary artists to address colonial history and ponder its aftereffects as black flâneurs walking through a postcolonial city. Due to the multitude of perspectives and voices, this book is both a catalogue and a reference work comprised of artistic and academic contributions. Together, the participating artists and invited authors unfold the blueprint of Congoville, an imaginary city that still subconsciously affects us, but also encourages us to envision a decolonial utopia. With contributions by/Met bijdragen van: Pieter Boons, Sandrine Colard, Filip De Boeck, Bas De Roo, Nadia Yala Kisukidi, Sorana Munsya & Léonard Pongo, Herman Van Goethem, Sara Weyns, Nabilla Ait Daoud Participating artists/Deelnemende kunstenaars: Sammy Baloji, Bodys Isek Kingelez, Maurice Mbikayi, Jean Katambayi, KinAct Collective, Simone Leigh, Hank Willis Thomas, Zahia Rahmani, Ibrahim Mahama, Ângela Ferreira, Kapwani Kiwanga, Sven Augustijnen, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Elisabetta Benassi, Pélagie Gbaguidi For more information, visit www.middelheimmuseum.be/nl/activiteit/congoville

Otto Treumann (1919-2001) is a major pioneer in the modernization of graphic design in the Netherlands. Inspired by Swiss typography and Bauhaus aesthetics, Treumann's oeuvre combines easy-to-read visual elements with iconoclastic color treatment, enhanced by his wide knowledge of printing techniques acquired during the Second World War when he forged documents for the resistance. Treumann enjoyed a special relationship with industrial clients, devising house styles and logos for the publishing house Wolters Noordhoff, the Kröller-Müller Museum, the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects and El Al Airlines; he also designed posters for the Industries Fair in Utrecht, the Rotterdam Ahoy and Tattoo in Delft. Based on materials from the Otto Treumann Archive at the Stedelijk Museum, and designed by Irma Boom, this volume surveys Treumann's career.

From 11 to 15 December 1972 a group of historians from many European countries assembled in Groningen to commemorate the centenary of Johan Huizinga's birth in that city on 7 December 1872. The conference was not intended simply as a tribute to the memory of a great historian but also as an attempt to assess the sig nificance of his work for the present generation. It was supported by generous grants from the Stichting oud-studentenfonds van 1906 at Groningen, the Gro ninger Universiteitsfonds, and the Ministry of Education and Science. We are pleased to be able to publish all the papers read at the conference, together with Dr. Jansonius's study of Huizinga's style, written for another occasion. The material is presented in a roughly chronological order. The first three papers, which examine Huizinga's intellectual and literary points of departure, are followed by another three dealing with The Waning of the Middle Ages. A special paper is de voted to Huizinga's Erasmian studies. The next three authors investigate the prob lems which preoccupied Huizinga during the 1930s. Three final papers examine general aspects of his work.

Netwerkende Kunstenaars In De Gouden Eeuw written by Erna Kok and has been published by Uitgeverij Verloren this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Art categories.
