In the fourth book of the Jocelyn O’Roarke series, where the eponymous stage actress and sometimes-detective goes, murder follows—even all the way across the country . . . New York City has dried up for Jocelyn “Josh” O’Roarke. Her career on the stage has stalled. Her relationship with NYPD lieutenant Phillip Gerrard is through. She needs a way out, and a supporting role in a Hollywood TV movie seems like just the thing. But once on the West Coast, she discovers that her role is to support washed-up child star Ginger Jellicoe’s comeback attempt. When Buddy Banks, the production’s photography director and Ginger’s surrogate father, is murdered in a darkroom, Josh is pressed once again to put her sleuthing skills to use. With the help of dashing LAPD detective Dwayne Hamill, Josh races to clear Ginger’s name while keeping the former child star from becoming the killer’s next victim. Dead Pan is the fourth book in the Jocelyn O’Roarke mystery series, which begins with Murder on Cue and First Hit of the Season.

Deadpan written by Tina Post and has been published by NYU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-10 with Art categories.

Explores expressionlessness, inscrutability, and emotional withholding in Black cultural production Arguing that inexpression is a gesture that acquires distinctive meanings in concert with blackness, Deadpan tracks instances and meanings of deadpan—a vaudeville term meaning “dead face”—across literature, theater, visual and performance art, and the performance of self in everyday life. Tina Post reveals that the performance of purposeful withholding is a critical tool in the work of black culture makers, intervening in the persistent framing of African American aesthetics as colorful, loud, humorous, and excessive. Beginning with the expressionless faces of mid-twentieth-century documentary photography and proceeding to early twenty-first-century drama, this project examines performances of blackness’s deadpan aesthetic within and beyond black embodiments, including Young Jean Lee’s The Shipment and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’s Neighbors, as well as Buster Keaton’s signature character and Steve McQueen’s restitution of the former’s legacy within the continuum of Black cultural production. Through this varied archive, Post reveals how deadpan aesthetics function in and between opacity and fugitivity, minimalism and saturation, excess and insensibility.

by David Heatley This is the latest autobiographical work by cartoonist David Heatley, obsessively painted in gouache paint. It contains nine new, bizarre and disturbing dream comics; the five-page "Portrait of My Dad," which ran in McSweeney's #13 - an intimate series of vignettes highlighting the quirky and moving relationship between the author and his father; and "My Sexual History," a 15-page account of Heatley's entire sexual history starting in Kindergarden and ending in the present. Told in a loose, autobiographical "sketchbook" style, it is Heatley's most revealing and personal work to date. This is David Heatley's first comic published by Fantagraphics Books.

The Language Of Theatre written by Martin Harrison and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998 with Drama categories.

Theatre has provided many words and meanings which we use - ignorant of their origins - in everyday writing and speech. This is the first book to explore 2,000 theatre terms in depth, in some cases tracing their history over two and a half millenia, in others exploring expressions less than a decade old. Terms are defined, shown in use and cross-referenced in ways which will fascinate theatre-goers, help theatre students and encourage those engaged in the theatre to examine the familiar from new angles.
