The topic of spiritual health is not a very popular one in most churches today. It is a very sensitive and taboo topic that many church organizations would rather not confront. The records however, show that based on the impact on members' lives, the differences between healthy and unhealthy churches make this discussion one of paramount importance to the Body of Christ. This is largely so because the scars of spiritual abuse, resulting from spiritual toxicity, can last for a lifetime. The fact is that there are churches that spiritually abuse their members. It is a growing trend in Christendom where unhealthy churches have commandeered the lives of millions of followers. Unconditional love is not to be found in these organizations. One has to earn that love and acceptance through performance. Often church leaders would publicly embarrass and threaten members into strict obedience to a legalistic code. This book was written for survivors of spiritual abuse. Much of it recounts the spiritual journey of the author, who spent over two decades as a member of an international Christian cult. There are millions of believers who have fallen through the cracks and need to hear a healing word of comfort. It was written for them before they reach their breaking point. Many of them drift along aimless and godless. This book is divided into three sections: Section 1 discusses several criteria by which spiritual health can be assessed. Section 2 offers hope and some good news for survivors of spiritual abuse. It discusses the process of: coming to grips with the effects of spiritual abuse, departing such organizations, and seeking redress from unhealthy, abusive church experiences. These are necessary steps on the road towards recovery and wholeness of the inner person. Section 3 is a question and answer section, where frequently asked questions on the issues surrounding spiritual health and spiritual abuse are answered. My hope and prayer for survivors of spiritual abuse; both those abused and their perpetrators, within the Body of Christ is for them to heed the words of Jesus, as He calls them to lay down the heavy burdens of religious legalism, and find rest, healing and acceptance in Him (Matt 11:28-31). For it is in Him and Him alone, that true spiritual fulfilment can, and must be found.

This book, Healing the Wounds of Spiritual Abuse, bears a very close resemblance to the author's previous, 2015 publication, Deadly Toxins of Unhealthy Churches. It carries a similar message as the earlier volume. Many victims of spiritual abuse are in greater need of healing than of learning about the intricacies of abusive churches, and so after much thought and prayer, it was decided to publish another related volume that puts greater emphasis on the healing process and less on the dynamics of toxic churches. So if you have already read the earlier volume you may want to consider whether or not to purchase this one. Having come to the realization that they were involved with an abusive church, many victims of such churches find themselves in an unending loop of distress, anger, resentment, grief and feelings of abandonment. Their sojourn in a cultic group is over but the pain remains. This publication emphasizes; the process of departing such churches, healing the emotional wounds, forgiveness, trust, reconciliation, personal restoration and a modern day transformation of a cultic church towards orthodoxy. As a friend of mine recently reminded me 'Jesus came not just to save the lost, but to set the captives free as well. This book emphasizes and points the way to freedom for anyone who has ever been hurt by toxic Christianity.

Spiritual abuse devastates its victims perhaps more than any other form of violation, because it targets those who are most unprepared and vulnerable. In Toxic Churches, Marc Dupont reaches out to those who have given their time, money, and talents to the Body of Christ, only to find themselves hurting, frustrated, and confused. He also writes to Christian leaders who may have inadvertently hurt the flock of God entrusted to their care. This book explores all aspects of spiritual abuse in the church. With care and tenderness, Dupont offers help and hope to those caught in abusive situations-people who might even be blaming themselves. He provides a healing balm to those with residual pain from past abuse. And he warns those engaging in abusive behavior, flagging telltale signs of warped and broken patterns. Those who have been used or abused by church leaders will find a deeper understanding of God's healing grace-both for themselves and for those who hurt them.

How to overcome the three forces that work against us daily: toxic influences, toxic emotions, and toxic behaviors. Why do so many well-meaning Christians take one spiritual step forward, then slide back two? Why do we long for more of God in our lives and yet feel further and further away from him? What's holding us back from growing in this relationship that we claim is our main priority? Every day we are surrounded by secondhand spiritual toxins—influences, emotions, and behaviors—that threaten to draw us away from Jesus Christ. But when we recognize the toxins that assault us and discover ways to live in this world without absorbing them into our souls, we can experience genuine spiritual growth. With a fresh look at the Word of God, vulnerable honesty, and his trademark humor, bestselling author of Winning the War in Your Mind Craig Groeschel unpacks ways to strengthen your spiritual health and your positive influence on others. He will help you to: Tell yourself the truth Overcome false beliefs Neutralize your anger Stop comparing yourself to others Unlock the chokehold of fear Toss out legalism More than an insightful look at the negative aspects of our day-to-day culture, this grace-filled guide will challenge you out of complacency and into a life of clean, pure, and focused living based on the freeing standard of God's holiness.
