Death at Fernside From the bestselling author of Murder at Rutherford Hall, comes the sixth book in the Rachel Markham Mystery Series. Book Six - In the Mystery Series When Rosemary, better known as Lady Woolton - an aging aristocratic acquaintance sends an invitation to Jeremy and Rachel, for her 83rd birthday celebration, little do they realise that their journey to the scenic Lake District will throw them into a web of murder, mayhem and deceit. And this time the case is closer to home, perhaps a bit too close to home for comfort. It promises to take all their brilliance and teamwork to unravel an unsolved murder committed twenty years ago. The fact that the victim was Jeremy's mother, Gloria Richards, complicates matters further as they must deal with familial bonds of love and deception, atonement and redemption as they spiral towards the truth.

Brittany, France. Near the coast. A picturesque inn. Spectacular scenery. Tasty French treats. Time off from school. Tallis Challinor imagines this as the perfect vacation scenario, so when her grandfather suggests that she accompany him to the country of her ancestors, she is more than happy to tag along. What Tallis doesn't bargain on is another ghostly encounter, especially not so soon after she's sealed up a bunch of unruly ghosts on their side of the portal between the human and spirit realms. But, when she feels the energy radiating from the megalithic standing stones dotting the countryside around Carnac, France, an energy that feels frighteningly like the power exuding from the portal in her basement back home, she has a feeling she might be in trouble. And, she is right. When her grandfather goes missing, Tallis leaps into action. She calls the only ghostbuster she knows in France and, with help on the way, she gears up to battle another set of spirits bent on causing destruction. Along the way, Tallis is forced to examine her life, her relationships, and her tightly-held beliefs about who she is and where she comes from. She also has to juggle two impossible males, both attractive but annoying, both seemingly set on driving her nuts or breaking her heart.

Alameda was once a peninsula of grassy fields and sandy beaches, separated from Oakland by a snaking estuary. A tidal canal made Alameda an island in 1902 and its waterfront became a major shipping port. Park Street's bay-windowed commercial buildings looked out on a prosperous city of streetcars and comfortable homes. Between the two world wars, Alameda's Neptune Beach resort and amusement park became the “Coney Island of the West,” eventually boasting a Moorish entrance tower on Webster Street, a stadium, two swimming pools, a high dive, and a roller coaster called the “Whoopie.” Alameda's strategic location made its “airdrome” the busiest in the world in the 1930s and eventually attracted a U.S. Coast Guard base, known as Government Island, and the Alameda Naval Air Station.
