The book is set primarily in the Yorkshire Dales, specifically, Wharfedale, and concerns the disappearance of a seemingly ordinary Skipton man while out walking. Over the next few days his family become increasingly worried and contact the police. Within two hours of him being officially designated as missing by Skipton police, a British Secret Service officer arrives to tell them that the man is undoubtedly dead and that there is a very dangerous individual hiding somewhere in Wharfedale who must be found. As the story develops, a lonely cottage above the village of Cray, and who may or may not be living there, and their mental state, become central to events, as does the beautiful landlady of a pub nearby. Police investigation is driven in response to events but is hampered by ignorance of backstory and by the limited cooperation of the MI5 officer. As the search for a murderer intensifies, twists and turns within the plot blur morality and question who is really responsible for bringing death to the dale.

When he was 23 years old, Dale Allison almost died in a car accident. That terrifying experience dramatically changed his ideas about death and the hereafter. In Night Comes Allison wrestles with a number of difficult questions concerning the last things — such questions as What happens to us after we die? and Why does death so often frighten us? Armed with his acknowledged scholarly expertise, Allison offers an engaging, personal exploration of such themes as death and fear, resurrection and judgment, hell and heaven, in light of science, Scripture, and his own experience. As he ponders and creatively imagines — engaging throughout with biblical texts, church fathers, rabbinic scholars, poets, and philosophers — Allison offers fascinating fare that will captivate many a reader’s heart and soul.

This story is the sequel to Death Comes To The Dale and includes many of the characters introduced therein. As such the reader is urged to tackle that first. Nevertheless, Death Returns To The Dale has been carefully written as a stand alone book so as to provide enough of the backstory. It sees David Tanner, British Secret Service Officer, returning to Wharfedale in Yorkshire for six months to closely monitor a brilliant but potentially dangerous schizophrenic, who is vital to GCHQ's work on cyber security. His main task is to teach them everything he knows but also to hunt down hackers who have undermined US-UK defence. As Tanner's MI5 boss, John Dawson, succinctly puts it: 'It's a no-brainer, David. Your job. Just make sure that nobody ends up dead this time.' This fast moving tale has both CIA and Russian involvement and the hunter, confined to a lonely cottage above the tiny hamlet of Cray, very much becomes the hunted. Again it begins....

When Jon Mote is hired to investigate the murder of his erstwhile mentor, literary star Richard Pratt, the grad school dropout feels woefully unequal to the task. Skittering on the edge of madness, his only source of hope is the dogged love of his developmentally disabled sister, Judy, who serves as cheerleader, critic and moral compass. Soon the siblings find themselves haunting the neighbourhoods of Minneapolis and St Paul, Minnesota – from crime scenes to the halls of academe – exposing a series of suspects along the way. When he stumbles upon Pratt’s terrible secret, Mote is prompted to discover an equally dreadful mystery in his own past – a revelation that accelerates his descent into darkness and puts both himself and Judy at grave risk. ‘Daniel Taylor’s oddly reluctant Sherlock Holmes is accompanied by the most unusual and heartwarming Watson in my reading experience.’ Paul J. Willis, author of The Alpine Tales

""Daniel Taylor blends a passion for theology, civil rights, and the saving grace of story in a mystery involving an unlikely pair of underdog investigators--the psychologically broken Jon Mote and his ever hopeful, developmentally challenged older sister, Judy.
