Using both his background in interpreting biblical research and his interest in word-puzzles, nationally known journalist John Dart uncovers lengthy codes that illuminate the intent of Mark's gospel, with explosive results that will shake the foundation of New Testament studies. Dart unlocks ancient, puzzle-like writing devices called chiasms, which are found throughout Mark, to reconstruct the original Gospel. By focusing on the presence or absence of these chiasms in particular parts, he identifies six miracles in the Gospel added by a later editor. He recovers passages from the Secret Gospel of Mark - a once-disputed find - that the pattern of chiasms repeatedly indicates had been deleted from original Mark.

Did the evangelist Mark write two versions of his gospel? According to a letter ascribed to Clement of Alexandria, Mark created a second, more spiritual edition of his gospel for theologically advanced Christians in Alexandria. Clement’s letter contains two excerpts from this lost gospel, including a remarkably different account of the raising of Lazarus. Forty-five years of cursory investigation have yielded five mutually exclusive paradigms, abundant confusion, and rumours of forgery. Strangely, one of the few things upon which most investigators agree is that the letter’s own explanation of the origin and purpose of this longer gospel need not be taken seriously. Mark’s Other Gospel: Rethinking Morton Smith’s Controversial Discovery calls this pervasive bias into question. After thoroughly critiquing the five main paradigms, Scott G. This is a study of the four gospels that goes beyond traditional boundaries. After considering the dramatic structures of sources as diverse as Shakespeare and Star Wars, this book makes the bold suggestion that the gospels were written as dramas, and not as strict chronological histories. Consider that the gospel authors had to compete for an audience. If they wanted to gain followers, they had to portray Jesus as a dramatic hero, superior to any hero their audience already knew, but with virtues that their audience would recognize, admire and be drawn to. The evidence in the gospels leads to the conclusion that when a gospel was intended for Jews, the author based its structure on the 5 books of the Jewish Law. And when a gospel was intended for gentiles, the author based its structure on the 5-act plays written by the Roman dramatist Seneca.
