Identifying gaps in knowledge is the first duty of any historian who sets out to understand the past. It is impossible fully to understand our forebears without some idea of what they did not know: the history of ignorance is an indispensable part of history itself. Here Alain Corbin focuses on our planet, exploring its mysteries past and present, and the intensity and eventual decline of the modes of terror and wonder it aroused. For thousands of years, humans knew nearly nothing about the earth. Certain locations on the map simply read ‘Terra Incognita’. Corbin recounts the many errors and uncertainties that littered the paths we followed in the attempt to discover the secrets of our blue planet, with a particular focus on the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries when the mysteries of volcanoes, the polar regions, glaciers, the stratosphere and the oceans began to be uncovered. While ignorance stimulated our ancestors’ imagination, Corbin’s history of ignorance reawakens our thirst for knowledge and changes our view of the world.

Integral Health written by Elliott S. Dacher and has been published by ReadHowYouWant.com this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-12-26 with Health & Fitness categories.

INTEGRAL HEALTH The Path to Human Flourishing Everyone agrees that the mind/body connection is a critical component in healing and well-being. But how do you activate that connection? Practices like yoga, tai chi, reiki, and various types of meditation relate to and promote that connection, but, in themselves, don't produce the qualitative shift needed for the higher level of extraordinary, integral health. Rather than looking outside ourselves for new remedies, techniques, and programs, Elliott S. Dacher, M.D., says we have to redirect our vision from outside to inside. ''To transform health and life we must shift our gaze inward, where we will find the ever-present source of exceptional health and healing, '' writes Dacher. As an internist for twenty-one years, Dr. Dacher was able to relieve his patients' physical suffering, but he grew more and more frustrated when he wasn't able to address his patients' underlying ailments like disabling fatigue, pervasive anxiety, or unrelenting low-level depression. That led him to seek a second medical education in the East, which spoke to him about wisdom, compassion, the alleviation of needless suffering, and the promotion of sustained health, happiness, and wholeness. This book provides the vision and the map that show how to achieve integral health as well as its many fruits. Based on Ken Wilber's integral theory, that path is holistic, evolutionary, intentional, person-centered, and dynamic as it addresses four aspects of human existence - the inner aspects of the psycho spiritual and the interpersonal and the outer aspects of the biological and the interpersonal. The seeker learns how to deal with and advance through each of the aspects, do an integral assessment of all four aspects, design a personalized program of integral practice, and progress toward integral health. By striving for human flourishing, we become co-creators in an evolutionary leap in health and well-being.

The Bible is Gods inspired revelation to His people, and it is His enduring truth. Yet it can also be difficult for us to sometimes recognize how Gods revealed truths are relevant for us todayand even for all time. Especially when it comes to Old Testament scriptures, how can we focus our faithand apply what we know today in the modern worldand discover the relevance and truth of these scriptures in a personal way? In Genesis: A Modern-Day Commentary, author Judith Folse presents the story of Genesis as the first part of the whole story of Gods plan of redemption for humankind, but she relates the subject matter of Genesis to New Testament themes that focus on the relationship between God and humanity. In an easy-to-read style, this commentary illuminates the ancient problems of sin and violence that still affect us today, and it is intended for people of all faiths with a reverence for the Old Testament. No matter your level of familiarity with the book of Genesis, approaching it in a new way will likewise renew your understanding of how timeless and relevant the Word of God is today. By identifying your common connection to the rest of humanity through biblical illustrations, you will not only recognize the ancient themes relevant to modern-day issues of world peace and human violenceyou will also discover or rediscover the truth of Gods revealed, eternal words.

Progress And Values In The Humanities written by Volney Patrick Gay and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Art categories.

Money and support tend to flow in the direction of economics, science, and other academic departments that demonstrate measurable "progress." The humanities, on the other hand, offer more abstract and uncertain outcomes. A humanist's objects of study are more obscure in certain ways than pathogens and cells. Consequently, it seems as if the humanities never truly progress. Is this a fair assessment? By comparing objects of science, such as the brain, the galaxy, the amoeba, and the quark, with objects of humanistic inquiry, such as the poem, the photograph, the belief, and the philosophical concept, Volney Gay reestablishes a fundamental distinction between science and the humanities. He frees the latter from its pursuit of material-based progress and restores its disciplines to a place of privilege and respect. Using the metaphor of magnification, Gay shows that, while we can investigate natural objects to the limits of imaging capacity, magnifying cultural objects dissolves them into noise. In other words, cultural objects can be studied only within their contexts and through the prism of metaphor and narrative. Gathering examples from literature, art, film, philosophy, religion, science, and psychoanalysis, Gay builds a new justification for the humanities. By revealing the unseen and making abstract ideas tangible, the arts create meaningful wholes, which itself is a form of progress.

Robert R. McLaughlin is the pastor of Grace Bible Church in Somerset, Massachusetts and the President of Robert McLaughlin Bible Ministries. Both ministries are non-denominational grace ministries dedicated to teaching the Word of God from the original languages and making it available at no charge throughout the world. For over 30 years Pastor McLaughlin has taught from the original languages of scripture, The Ministry is dedicated to equipping the believers in the Lord Jesus Christ to live the life that the Lord has designed for them. This is a life of contentment and strength as we go through the inevitable problems and challenges that life brings. Like it or not, believe it or not, we are all a part of an Angelic Conflict. One can hardly live in today’s society and not come across the concept of good versus evil. Books, movies, video games, news, it is found everywhere. It is actually a measure of Satan’s genius that he uses all of these things to disguise, obscure, and pervert the truth. This book explains why most people, including many Christians, are unable to associate the events of their lives with the big picture, the Angelic Conflict itself. The Bible teaches that before the creation of man, a conflict arose between God and His angels, when Satan attempted to ascend to the Mount of Heaven and wrestle God’s ruler-ship away from Him. The resulting battle left the surface of the earth in ruins, at this point the earth was packed in ice. Presumably it was at this time that the trial occurred in which Satan and the angels that followed him were found guilty and sentenced to the Lake of Fire. Since Satan is obviously not yet in the Lake of Fire, the logical conclusion is that he appealed his sentence. We can speculate a number of grounds on which he is making this appeal. One is an accusation against God’s character that we hear often enough in life: How can a loving God cast His creatures into hell? To answer this appeal, God created man, a lower being, and set him in the great stadium of earth for all the angels to observe. God would take on the form of this lower being Himself. He would allow sinful man to abuse and mock Him, and finally to nail Him to a Roman Cross in an attempt to destroy Him. Our Lord Jesus Christ would then bear the penalty for the sins of all mankind. By doing so He neutralized the claims His justice had against us, so that we could live with Him and fellowship with Him forever. This book unlocks the secrets of the Angelic Conflict!
