This book presents the scientific contributions of forty-three authors gathered in order to celebrate Christiane Zivie-Coche. Holder of the chair of Egyptian religion at the Ecole pratique des hautes etudes, Section des Sciences religieuses, in Paris, from 1992 to 2015, Christiane Zivie-Coche left her mark on Egyptological studies in this field and trained several generations of Egyptologists. Also active in the field, from Louqsor to Tanis, via the Memphite area, she has published fundamental studies on subjects as varied as Giza in the second and first millennium B.C. or late Theban theologies, to name but a few. Former students, colleagues and friends - sometimes all three - Egyptologists, Hellenists, historians of religions, all wished to pay tribute here to the science of the recipient, and to her generosity, in research as in life. “Nostra Signora delle Apparizioni” è una ricerca sul culto mariano osservato dalla prospettiva, come indica il titolo, del fenomeno delle apparizioni. Non è pertanto un mero elenco di apparizioni mariane, ma è una sorta di dossier investigativo che raccoglie informazioni da varie fonti. Tali informazioni vengono poi incrociate e analizzate per ottenere una visione d’insieme, una sintesi, allo scopo di comprendere la genesi e ricostruire il percorso di questo culto sconosciuto al cristianesimo delle origini. Abbiamo attinto a tutte le fonti utili: storia, preistoria, archeologia, linguistica, etnologia, mitologia e religioni precristiane, filosofia, patristica, storia del dogma e persino psicologia che con i convincimenti religiosi ha molto a che vedere. Al vertice della gerarchia delle fonti, per quel che riguarda la dottrina, noi abbiamo posto la rivelazione biblica. L’area considerata è soprattutto quella mediterranea (anche se non mancano incursioni in India e nelle Americhe) perché è qui che il Cristianesimo ebbe origine, si svolse e si contaminò con l’esistente. In questa indagine i messaggi dell’entità che si manifesta nelle apparizioni si sono rivelati imprescindibili, per comprendere il fenomeno e per prendere atto che da essi è stato intenzionalmente pilotato. Infine, come in ogni attività investigativa che si rispetti, era doveroso individuare l’autore del misfatto, il movente e il progetto soggiacente che qui, a nostro avviso, chiaramente emergono.

Eppure di lui si sa pochissimo: le statuette lo raffigurano seduto con un foglio di papiro srotolato sulle gambe e la testa calva; gli antichi testi lo definiscono medico, letterato, architetto, astronomo e mago; nel corso dei secoli edi ci sacri furono innalzati in suo onore in tutto l’Egitto, da Menfi all’Isola di Philae. I più grandi archeologi del secolo scorso hanno dedicato la loro vita alla ricerca della tomba di Imhotep, e qualcuno ha anche pagato un prezzo salato, rimettendoci la vita stessa. Troppo poco per un semplice sacerdote che gli antichi egizi veneravano come il Figlio di Ptah. Le sue intuizioni hanno ispirato l’intera conoscenza occidentale, dalle eresie del primo cristianesimo alle teorie rivoluzionarie dello gnosticismo di Giordano Bruno. Rispolverando antichi reperti, frugando tra papiri e vecchi codici e analizzando le nuove scoperte archeologiche, l’autore del libro cerca di ricostruire la singolare storia di Imhotep e della sua ascesa nell’Olimpo degli dèi.
