Canto a Sonora: vida y obra del compositor José Sosa Chávez, es el primer estudio biográfico enfocado en las actividades que realizo en vida desde distintos ángulos (interprete, compositor, promotor artístico, locutor, deportista y fotógrafo) con el objetivo de estructurar un escenario que ayude a tener mayor comprensión de cómo era la cultura artística y musical en el segundo tercio del siglo XX y de esa manera cubrir un vacío existente, hasta el día de hoy, en la historiografía de la música creada en sonora. El libro está dividido en dos apartados: el primero se titula “Infancia, formación y practica musical”, en donde se expone los orígenes familiares de Sosa Chávez en Morelia, su participación en el Orfeón Pío X, estancia en San Luis Potosí, la colaboración con Julián Carrillo, sus primeras composiciones y el viaje a México, entonces Distrito Federal, testigo de su famosa composición Plegaria a Jesús Sacramentado. El capítulo termina con una lista de obras correspondientes a esa etapa de su existencia y con un apartado especial denominado: “El taller del compositor”. Que es el resultado del trabajo de campo referente a la relación de partituras encontradas, clasificación, estado de conservación de los manuscritos, formas musicales y formatos utilizados por el autor, así como un somero análisis musical del lenguaje armónico. La segunda parte se titula “Arribo a Sonora (1937)”, que incluye una extensa lista de composiciones creadas en la región y se enfoca en el trabajo que realizó en Navojoa, Álamos, Obregón, Guaymas y Hermosillo, ciudad en la que se concentra la mayor cantidad de eventos y, por supuesto, donde se enamoró de quien sería su compañera de vida y cómplice musical, Amalia Morera Huerta.

Capitalism, the economic system of Western Europe and the United States at the turn of the century, had a major impact on every country of the Third World. The People of Sonora and Yankee Capitalists examines how the advent of North American dollars between 1882 and 1910 helped reshape the economic, social, and political contours of a Mexican province on the border of Arizona. The activity of Yankee promoters, particularly miners, land speculators, and cattle barons, altered dramatically the colonial structure left behind by its former Spanish masters. Even the psychology of the inhabitants of Sonora underwent a kind of metamorphosis.
