Ethology, or how animals relate to their environments, is currently enjoying increased academic attention. A prominent figure in this scholarship is Gilles Deleuze and yet, the significance of his relational metaphysics to ethology has still not been scrutinised. Jason Cullen's book is the first text to analyse Deleuze's philosophical ethology and he prioritises the theorist's examination of how beings relate to each other. For Cullen, Deleuze's Cinema books are integral to this investigation and he highlights how they expose a key Deleuzian theme: that beings are fundamentally continuous with each other. In light of this continuity then, Cullen reveals that how beings understand each other shapes them and allows them to transform their shared worlds.

This book presents a review of Deleuze’s key methods and concepts in the course of exploring how these methods may be applied in contemporary studies of health and illness. Taken from a Deleuzian perspective, health and wellbeing will be characterized as a discontinuous process of affective and relational transitions. The book argues that health, conceived in terms of the quality of life, is advanced or facilitated in the provision of new affective sensitivities and new relational capacities. Following an assessment of Deleuze’s key ideas, the book will offer a series of case studies designed to illustrate how Deleuze’s ideas can be applied to select health problems. This analysis draws out the specific advantages of a Deleuzian approach to public health research, establishing grounds for more widespread engagement with Deleuze’s ideas across the health and social sciences.

When the Werner Reimers Foundation organized a colloquium on Human Ethology in 1977, it was about Claims and Limits of a New Discipline as a bridge between biology and the social sciences and humanities. As a lost discipline, however, the interdisciplinary approach to ethology only takes shape in a dispersed dispositif. This is the framing argument, which derives from the nucleus of ethology, namely that the starting point of all knowledge is the body in its possibilities of movement in time and space to affect and be affected. In their essays (English or German), the contributors to this collection have worked through the heterogeneity of ethological thought - from Spinoza to Jakob von Uexkull, Gregory Bateson, Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, Philippe Descola, or Isabelle Stengers - and practice - as, for example in the works of Virginia Woolf or Marcel Beyer - and have taken it as an opportunity to relocate ethology, I. as an Immanent Ecology, with essays by Kerstin Andermann, Hanjo Berressem, and Verena Andermatt Conley II. in the discussion of Anthropological Contrasts, with essays by Marc Rolli, Mirjam Schaub, and Stefan Rieger, and III. in Ethological Interferences and Practices, with essays by Stephan Zandt, Anthony Uhlmann, and Adrian Robanus A commentary by Sophia Grafe concludes the volume.

Ronald Bogue's essays touch on cinema, music, theatre, painting, fiction, education, ecology, ethology, politics, technology and philosophy. He creates paradigmatic occasions of thinking with Deleuze - thinking with him and through him, following diverse lines of his thought and engaging concepts to extend his thought into areas Deleuze did not explore. These frequently-cited, classic essays have all been reworked to make them even better. Each one offers a separate entry into Deleuze's thought but they all serve to illuminate the pivotal role the arts play in the political project of inventing a people to come and the broader project of promoting an ecologically viable new earth.

Deleuze And Philosophy written by Keith Ansell-Pearson and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-03-11 with Philosophy categories.

The work of Gilles Deleuze has had an impact far beyond philosophy. He is among Foucault and Derrida as one of the most cited of all contemporary French thinkers. Never a student 'of' philosophy, Deleuze was always philosophical and many influential poststructuralist and postmodernist texts can be traced to his celebrated resurrection of Nietzsche against Hegel in his Nietzsche and Philosophy, from which this collection draws its title. This searching new collection considers Deleuze's relation to the philosophical tradition and beyond to the future of philosophy, science and technology. In addition to considering Deleuze's imaginative readings of classic figures such as Spinoza and Kant, the essays also point to the meaning of Deleuze on 'monstrous' and machinic thinking, on philosophy and engineering, on philosophy and biology, on modern painting and literature. Deleuze and Philosophy continues the spirit of experimentation and invention that features in Deleuze's work and will appeal to those studying across philosophy, social theory, literature and cultural studies who themselves are seeking new paradigms of thought.
