"This book in the main consists of lectures that I first delivered in 2010 at the Collegium Phenomenologicum at Citta di Castello, Italy, and subsequently expanded for a three-day seminar at the Universidad Diego Portales at Santiago, Chile, in 2011. Is Deleuze a Western philosopher? If Deleuzian thought belongs to the tradition of western philosophy, in what sense does the non-West regard Deleuze as a philosopher? Philosophy is equal anywhere on earth. Since Descartes' 'discovery' that the non-West could think, western philosophy could no longer ignore the presence of the non-West, a philosophical otherness in reality. Deleuze recognized the problem of the non-West and suggested a solution with the concept of 'geophilosophy'. In What Is Philosophy? Drawing on the entirety of Deleuze's work as well as his collaborations with Félix Guattari, from the “transcendental empiricism” of Difference and Repetition to the schizoanalysis and geophilosophy of Anti-Oedipus and A Thousand Plateaus, Lapoujade explores the central problem underlying the delirious coherence of Deleuze's philosophy: aberrant movements.
