The issue if criminal behavior among our youth is deeply troubling to Americans. There appears to be a profound depression among growing numbers of youth that life (either theirs or someone elseÆs) has any value. A distinguished group of scholars addresses these issues and evaluates solutions from the perspectives and research offered by each of their disciplines. Delinquent Violent Youth opens with a literary and historical overview of crime amongst rural and urban youth, followed by a chapter that explores the theoretical and social policy thinking that grew from these traditions and shaped societyÆs responses to youth in trouble. Next, the book reviews the vast literature concerning how families, peers, schools, and the community influence delinquent behavior. Subsequent chapters explore the role substances play in delinquent behavior; the influence television has on violent behavior in childhood and adolescence; the nature and treatment of violent behavior in adolescents and the implications for treatment; a developmental perspective of youth gangs; effective community-based approaches for treating juvenile offenders; effective interventions for incarcerated youth; and, the promotion of juvenile rightency. For graduate students, program directors, and clinicians who want to increase their knowledge of violent delinquent behavior, Delinquent Violent Youth offers a solid overview and guidance in the selection of approaches that work for intervening with violent youth.

Youth Violence And Juvenile Justice written by Neil A. Ramsay and has been published by Nova Science Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with At-risk youth categories.

There are multiple reasons to prevent juveniles from becoming delinquent or continuing to engage in delinquent behaviour. The most obvious reason is that delinquency puts youth at risk for substance abuse and delinquency, school drop-out, gang involvement, criminality, and mental health challenges. Youth engaging in delinquent behaviours are also vulnerable to physical injury, early pregnancy, domestic violence and sexual assault. To address issues of juvenile delinquency, this book describes various youth and family risk and protective factors associated with delinquency and provides a description of various family-oriented treatment options for preventing and treating youth violence and aggression. The authors also examine how sociometric status influences childhood bullying, aggressive behaviour and victimisation. Special attention is given to the affect of sociometric neglect and rejection on child development. In addition, this book summarises the transformation of youth gangs and violence associated with them, the basis of interventions to reduce youth gang affiliation and aggression in these different eras. To conclude, implications for the prevention and treatment of juvenile crime are presented, as well as recommendations for extinguishing violent and aggressive beliefs and behaviours in children.

Serious And Violent Juvenile Offenders written by Rolf Loeber and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-06-23 with Social Science categories.

Detailed and comprehensive, Serious and Violent Juvenile Offenders presents authoritative discussions by a select group of leading scholars on issues surrounding serious and violent juvenile offenders. This population is responsible for a disproportionate percentage of all crime and poses the greatest challenge to juvenile justice policymakers. Under the skillful editorship of Rolf Loeber and David P. Farrington, this unique volume integrates knowledge about risk and protective factors with information about intervention and prevention programs so that conclusions from each area can inform the other. Current literature on these two areas does not, for the most part, apply directly to serious and violent juvenile offenders. This volume contends that serious and violent juvenile offenders tend to start displaying behavior problems and delinquency early in life, warranting early intervention. It is the contributors' thesis that prevention is never too early. They also maintain, however, that interventions for serious and violent juvenile offenders can never be too late in that effective interventions exist for known serious and violent juvenile offenders. Augmented by charts, tables, graphs, figures, and an extensive bibliography, Serious and Violent Juvenile Offenders is an excellent reference work and a must read for policy and lawmakers, judges, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, education administrators, researchers, academics, social workers, sociologists, as well as graduate students and interns.

Causes Of Juvenile Delinquency A Literature Review written by Louis Howell Jr and has been published by GRIN Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-18 with Law categories.

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2015 in the subject Law - Criminal process, Criminology, Law Enforcement, grade: A, Northcentral University, course: Scholarly Literature Review, language: English, abstract: The causes of juvenile delinquency have being a field that many scholars have built their research on. In addition, causes leading to violent behavior especially among the youth has being widely studied aiming at intervention at an early stage (Schreck, Fisher, & Miller, 2012). In the vast field of psychology, human violence is a key element consequently; psychologists evaluate how the environment interacts with the individual to result in a violent act (Jessica, Osmond, & Ballick, 2014). Juvenile violence is a key issue in the corridors of justice on a global scale. However, juvenile violence focuses on the punishment rather than development of mechanisms that may be instrumental in prevention and intervention at early stage in life (Winterdyk, 2014). There are two outstanding themes in this literature review. First theme is that various life events and immediate environment including home, school, and neighborhood is essential in shaping ones trajectory as ones transit from childhood through adolescence to adulthood. The second theme is that identifying such life events is the determining factor of delinquent behavior. In summary, the pathway to crime for a child is greatly dependent on the social bonds that exist in the society.

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2010 in the subject Sociology - Children and Youth, grade: A, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine (-), language: English, abstract: The aims of the study is to understand the real life conditions and experiences of children together with the extent and forms of school violence in the Secondary Schools in Trinidad among whom the highest incidences of violence have been reported, and if possible to construct an adequate theory about the upsurge in crime in this youthful section of the population using the dynamics of race, gender, social class, limited opportunity for employment, poverty and family background. The objective of the research is to investigate the experiences of students in the Secondary School system in the high risk schools in Trinidad, and to enquire into their perceptions/experiences of the root causes, consequences and outcomes of youth engagement in violence. A further objective is to propose policies and recommendations to address the root problems of school violence and delinquency exposed by the research to reduce the levels of crime and violence in the high risk schools. In addition to recommend polices/ strategies to strengthening student protection, school staff, families and the community as a whole. The increase in criminal behavior among the Secondary School population in Trinidad and Tobago has been of national concern for some time. Reports of serious crime – murder, attack with a weapon, rape, larceny, kidnapping - allegedly committed by school students and reported in the press, have given rise to great concern and stimulated resultant explanations from lay persons and policy makers alike. The reasons for and the appropriate methods of dealing with this relatively new phenomenon in the Trinidad context, have abounded and are discussed in various public fora.
