The Disability Discrimination Bill (Cm. 6058-I/II/III, ISBN 010160582X published in December 2003) extends the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 to cover the functions of public bodies, imposing a positive duty to eliminate discrimination and harassment and to promote equality of opportunity for disabled people. This consultation paper seeks views on proposals for the guidance the Disability Rights Commission should issue to support the implementation of these changes, and on the possible use of regulatory powers. Issues discussed include: changing working cultures, the specific duties and range of public bodies covered, guidance to be issued to smaller bodies, content of guidance relating to procurement, how public authorities can promote equality in practice, gathering evidence and reporting progress, implementation of new duties, and costs and benefits of the proposals. Responses to the consultation should be received by 21 October 2004 and sent to: Sue Hammond, Disability Discrimination Bill Division, 6th floor, The Adelphi, London WC2N 6HT or emailed to: [email protected]

This Ability written by Anne-Marie Mooney Cotter and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-01-18 with Law categories.

This Ability is Cotter's third book in a series dealing with discrimination law. Having looked at the theme of 'gender discrimination' in Gender Injustice and 'race discrimination' in Race Matters, this further installment takes a similar approach and structure to illustrate comparisons and contradictions in discrimination law. Disability Law is an increasingly important area in combating disability discrimination. This Ability provides readers with a better understanding of the issue of inequality and aims to increase the likelihood of achieving equality at both the national and international levels for those with disabilities while at the same time educating those without disabilities. The work examines the primary role of legislation and its impact on the court process. It also discusses the two most important trade agreements of our day - namely the North American Free Trade Agreement and the European Union Treaty - in a historical and compelling analysis of discrimination. By providing a detailed examination of the relationship between disability issues and the law, this book will be an important read for those concerned with equality.

Equality and non-discrimination: A core principle of all human rights and fundamental freedoms. Ensuring equal opportunities for persons with disabilities is an important facilitator of participation and inclusion in society. Both the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and the Council of Europe Disability Strategy 2017-2023 address equality and equalisation of opportunities for persons with disabilities. Article 5 of the UNCPRD requires States to adopt positive measures aimed at ensuring equality across the substantive rights in the Convention. The Council of Europe Disability Strategy aims at guiding and supporting the activities of Council of Europe member States in their implementation of the UNCRPD and Council of Europe standards regarding disability, and similarly addresses equality and non-discrimination. The overall goal of this study is to analyse the obligations contained in the UNCRPD regarding equality and non-discrimination, and to provide examples of good national practices regarding equality and non-discrimination.

Disability Human Rights And Education written by Armstrong, Felicity and has been published by McGraw-Hill Education (UK) this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-10-01 with Social Science categories.

This book recognizes the importance of an informed cross-cultural understanding of the policies and practices of different societies within the field of disability, human rights and education. It represents an attempt to critically engage with issues arising from the historical and contemporary domination of portrayals of 'the western' as advanced, democratic and exemplary, in contrast to the construction of the 'rest of the world' as backward, primitive and inferior in these fundamental areas. How human rights are understood in different contexts is a key theme in this book. Importantly, some contributors raise questions about the value of a 'human rights' model across all societies. Other contributors see the struggle for human rights as at the heart of the struggle for an inclusive society. The implications for education arising from this debate are identified, and a series of questions are raised by each author for further reflection and discussion as well as providing a stimulus for developing future research. Disability, Human Rights and Education is recommended reading for students and researchers interested in Disability Studies, inclusive education and social policy. It is also directly relevant to professionals and policy makers in the field seeking a greater understanding of cross-cultural perspectives.
