DBD adalah penyakit yang ditularkan melalui vektor yang membawa virus dengue. Berdasarkan laporan CDC bahwa sepertiga populasi di dunia berisiko tiggi terkena demam berdarah. Prevalensi demam berdarah dengue lebih banyak ditemukan di daerah tropis dan subtropics dunia. Nyamuk Aedes dilaporkan sebagai penyebab utama penularan virus dengue. Pendahuluan. Virus dengue merupakan Famili Flaviviridae yang mempunyai envelope, positif strand dan merupakan virus RNA. Genom Flavivirus mengkode beberapa poliprotein diantaranya diproses secara seluler dan viral encoded protease menjadi 10 protein. Gejala yang diakibatkan infeksi virus dengue bervariasi mulai dari demam, sakit kepala, malaise, nyeri retroorbital serta gejala pencernaan lain yang menyertai. Diagnosis DBD dapat ditegakkan berdasarkan rekomendasi WHO 1997 atau WHO 2009. Diagnosis dapat dilakukan berdasarkan gejala klinis dan hasil pemeriksaan penunjang. Pemeriksaan penunjang yang dapat dilakukan untuk diagnosis dengue terdiri dari hematologi, serologi, pemeriksaan antigen/NS1, pemeriksaan asam nukleat dan saat ini telah berkembang pemeriksaan yang berbasis biosensor dan mikrofluida. Tatalaksana DBD dilakukan berdasarkan temuan klinis dan komplikasi pada pasien. Saat ini juga telah banyak tanaman yang dijadikan alternative terapi infeksi dengue namun masih memerlukan banyak penelitian lebih lanjut. Pencegahan infeksi dengue dapat dilakukan baik dengan vaksin, pengendalian vektor secara kimia, biologi ataupun fisika. Hal tersebut perlu dilakukan secara bersama dan komprehensif dengan berbagai bidang ilmu untuk menurunkan angka kejadian DBD.

Of 520 convicted capital offenders sentenced to die between 1923 and 1972, 361 were actually executed, thus maintaining Texas’ traditional reputation as a staunch supporter of capital punishment. This book is the single most comprehensive examination to date of capital punishment in any one state, drawing on data for legal executions from 1819 to 1990. The authors show persuasively how slavery and the racially biased practice of lynching in Texas led to the institutionalization and public approval of executions skewed according to race, class, and gender, and they also track long-term changes in public opinion up to the present. Roy Gottfried takes a different and somewhat controversial approach to the study of James Joyce's relation to religion by examining the author's misbelief rather than the disbelief so many scholars claim he professed. Gottfried argues that Joyce in fact had a great deal of respect for the Catholic Church though he did not accept the orthodox dogma he learned as a youth. Instead, Joyce was most interested in actual schisms that challenged the authority and universality of Catholic dogma. This focus on schism is most readily evident in Gottfried's analysis of Joyce's use of key Christian, though not Catholic, texts. He explores Joyce's interest in the Eastern Orthodox Church and in Protestantism, two influences usually ignored in discussions of Joyce and religion. Gottfried offers new readings of Joyce's work including his puzzling use of the term "epicleti" to describe Dubliners and his interest in heterodox ideas in Ulysses and Finnegans Wake. Joyce's use of the Protestant Bible and the Anglican Book of Common Prayer enabled Joyce to articulate ideas that the Catholic Church of his time suppressed and to challenge Catholic doctrine, power, and hegemony, according to Gottfried.
