Intended primarily for mental health professionals, Demystifying Love deals plainly with topics rarely written about for clinicians. The book discusses in a small package highly readable and useful topics, such as love (as both noun and verb), psychological intimacy, sexual desire, as well as infidelity, both in background concepts and clinical guidelines. As the book shows, love is the logical point of departure for a clinical understanding of sexuality and its problems. It is the most conventional framework for understanding sexual behaviors, the one that is broadly endorsed across many cultures, often as the ideal context for sexual expression. The book integrates an analysis of love in patients dealing with intimacy, sexual desire, infidelity, forgiveness and reconciliation. Detailed with compelling case studies, the author’s skill as a therapist comes through in the discussion of these topics—many of which are at the heart of numerous couple problems. In creating this illuminating work for mental health professionals, Dr. Levine may have underestimated its appeal. Dr. Levine’s ability to shed light on our internal processes as we love and attempt to be loved throughout life may prove to be of interest to a far broader audience.

In her poems, love is intertwined with sincerity and innocence, passion and mystery, betrayal and sorrow. It reaches the peaks of lust and sin, before it ends as simply as it began. She writes to and for all the lonely souls, dreamers, and lovers. She offers words of comfort and encouragement, she tickles the senses, and invites reflection - all in order to celebrate and inspire the feeling. In the end, love does make our lives a pinch better. This book attempts to demystify the complexity of the illusive world of love, labeled by the ancient Greeks in the three distinct types of love, particularly eros. The book is challenging this axiom in stressing that majority of people in the world are being fooled into thinking that there is such a thing as true love, as eros. People may say, “Not another book on love”—yes, but with a difference. The belief is that the word love (eros) is an illusion, and that having been entrenched in the certainty of what love has to offer, the more knowledge we have about it, the better. The instance here is this: whilst love is held with higher regard in the world since time immemorial, it is time to have a fresher thought about the reality of love. By engaging in the exploration of the influence of eros (love), we shall be in a supreme position to be able to disentangle the mind-set being enculturated into society centuries ago by the Greek philosophers. It can’t be stressed highly enough as we are all witnessing the devastating impact of the Platonic love eros on many innocent people, particularly children in our modern society. Marinoff claims that “the ancient Greeks, whose development and discoveries in many subjects continue to exert primary influence on Western civilization, and therefore also on the global village, were vitally interested in love and its relation to the human soul. In this pre-Christian period, the Greeks were pagans, and the view of the soul was not a religious one involving spirits or ghosts. Plato and others conceived of love as residing in the soul and the soul itself (and therefore love). This book reveals what true love is in the Bible, contrary to what the ancient Greeks handed to modern society. The Greek’s third and highest form of love is agape. It is the rarest and most valuable kind of love. Agape is unselfish; its expression always helps and never harms another. What makes agape different from eros and philos is its selflessness. Although agape love was mentioned by the Greeks, its true meaning is given by Jesus in the Bible. In this respect, the book is saturated with the biblical verses of God’s love, particularly agape love.

Barriers To Loving written by Stephen B. Levine and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-23 with Psychology categories.

Barriers to Loving is an intriguing exploration of the role of sexual love over the course of life. Beginning with the mental health professions’ avoidance of the topic, Levine proposes a compendium of love’s pathologies by reorganizing what is familiar to clinicians into the barriers that limit the formation of adult-adult love, impediments that diminish a partner’s lovability, and the impediments to feeling and expressing love for a partner. Before reviewing scientific contributions to the understanding of love, he explores the topics of sexual excess and infidelity and how they relate to the aspiration to love and be loved. The final two chapters synthesize with clarity what to teach about love to young professionals in order to prepare them for the complexities they will soon encounter and provide a sophisticated answer to the question, What is love? Barriers to Loving integrates humanism, science, and clinical experience in Levine’s long-appreciated unique and mature voice.

“A welcome correction to the politically tortured conceptions of Islam so prevalent today . . . An important, original new examination of Islam.” —Kirkus Reviews Despite heightened interest in the study of the Muslim faith, for many people Islam remains shrouded in mystery and confusion. What really is Shariah law? How is a Muslim to understand Jihad? Does Islam oppose Western values such as free speech or freedom of religion? What place do women have according to Islam? Understanding that this confusion has as much to do with the behavior and words of Muslims as it does with allegations made by anti-Islam activists, Demystifying Islam offers refreshingly bold answers to provocative questions about Islam today. Author Harris Zafar—lecturer, writer, teacher and national spokesperson for Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA—is forthright about issues where Muslims disagree, and he digs into history through vast research and scholarship to track the origins of differing beliefs. From the burqa to the role of Jesus in Islam, Demystifying Islam is an essential resource and concise guide to understanding the fastest growing religion in the world. “This book is less of a spiritual introduction than it is a cultural one, and an excellent starting point for people navigating interfaith relationships or working to improve understanding and representation in organizations and public discussion.” —Publishers Weekly “A significant contribution to the global conversation on peace, freedom, and justice in a world mystified and threatened by geopolitical and religious tensions.” —Paul Louis Metzger, author of Connecting Christ

"Demystifying the French: How to Love Them, and Make Them Love You is aimed at first-time visitors to France as well as long-term expatriates. Designed to help readers 'crack the code,' avoid common mistakes, and get off on the right foot with the French, the book begins with five easy-to-follow essential tips 'for even brief encounters' by introducing a few French phrases and how to say them that will pave the way for a positive experience in France. The tips are followed by 10 chapters that go into a deeper explanation of French habits, manners, and ways of viewing the world. Hulstrand shares the perspective she has gained in nearly 40 years of time spent living, working, teaching, and traveling in France, and illustrates the principles she is discussing with sometimes touching, and often amusing, personal anecdotes... Reflections contributed by David Downie, Adrian Leeds, Harriet Welty Rochefort, and other well-known commentators on Franco-American cultural differences provide additional perspective and depth. A glossary of French terms that is both substantive and whimsical provides surprising insights into historical as well as cultural reasons for the French being 'the way they are.' Aimed mainly at an American audience, this book will be helpful for anyone who wants to better understand the French, and have fun while doing so."--Amazon.com.
