James had shown, very early on in his young life, an enormous amount of intelligence, talent, competitiveness, and a fierce, raw ambition, which made his teachers, family, neighbors, and friends specifically take notice. He, somehow, insecurely felt deep inside that he never truly quite fit in anywhere. Having accumulated many friends over the years while living in the co-ops, his inner insecurities and total fear of rejection, topped with his parents' separation and ultimate divorce, have built a solid wall separating his true pain of life's realities and his ability to deal with them. Eventually, he started using drugs to feel good about himself and erase any pain he would encounter that would seem too much for him. This may either be in the present, where he struggled to find an identity, or in his past, from dealing with females to being horrified by the prejudice he dealt with while going to high school in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. Eventually, James's steadily progressive means to escape and forget his problems run him straight into crack, and all hell is about to break loose.

Veterinary intern Emily can’t believe she wound up in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho, instead of the Los Angeles clinic she had always imagined. Now she has to put her plans to move to L.A. on hold for a whole year while she fulfills the obligation of her vet school scholarship. Then Wyatt, her gorgeous one-night stand from a Reno vet conference, introduces himself as her new boss. And Emily is just as drawn to his seductive looks and quiet strength as she was on that very steamy night. She soon learns that Wyatt isn’t just a laid-back doctor, but a delicious alpha male tempting her away from her carefully laid-out plans...

Varis learned to survive as a very young child in the slums of Amenkor. And when the mysterious White Fire swept through the city for the second time in a millunnium, bringing madness, drought, famine, and disease to the land, Varis survived that as well. But she was changed by the Fire's spell, and she was not the only person marked by the White Fire. Eryn, Mistress of the Skewed Throne, still reigned over the city after the Fire's passing. Yet from that moment, Amenkor began a steady decline, and Eryn herself seemed to hover on the edge of madness. As Amenkor deteriorated, Varis came to the attention of some of the most powerful people in the city, people who could see her unique potential. And she found herself transformed from gutterscum to unofficial Seeker to bodyguard to assassin. Yet none of her skills could save her from a destiny she never wanted. Varis became the new Mistress of the Skewed Throne. Untrained, unprepared, not certain who she could trust, Varis took the Throne at the most perilous point in Amenkor's history. The city was on the brink of starvation, and the trading ships sent out to bring back supplies had disappeared without a trace. And both Varis and Eryn were obsessed with a vision they alone had shared―Amenkor invaded by an unknown enemy, the harbbor watchtowers destroyed, wrecked ships sinking in waters stained red with blood, the city itself engulfed in flames.

In this revealing memoir of childhood, the author shows not only what affected his family, but also reveals a large slice of social history concerning the lives of all ordinary working-class people struggling to live in the slums of the East End of London in those pre-Welfare State days. He writes with sympathy, and sometimes anger, of the overcrowded houses with families of anything up to eight children, as his own had, living in just two or three rooms with outside W.C. and water tap; of the reliance on charity and the soup kitchen for food; of trying to eke out what little income they had by buying stale bread and cracked eggs or other cheap food from the many itinerant street sellers. Yet this is also a chronicle of what was a turbulent time in British history, and especially in the East End, with its then still large Jewish and Irish populations. So here too is an eyewitness account of the Depression, and of the provocative marches by Sir Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists through the area, culminating in the Battle of Cable Street that saw the marchers turned back by the efforts of Jewish, Irish, communist and socialist protestors. Above all, however, Norman Jacobs writes with affection of the area and its extraordinary mix of peoples, as well as the now-vanished aspects of everyday life, such as the music hall, the two-valve radio, and the first Cup Final to be played at Wembley.

Those Challenging Cracks Of Secularism written by Rev. Oliver O. Nwachukwu and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-01-09 with Religion categories.

Lack of religious enthusiasm is a universal nemesis with long-ranging effects. In Those Challenging Cracks of Secularism, author Rev. Oliver O. Nwachukwu shows how secularism can further deepen dividing lines among people. The negatives solicited by indifference to authentic religious values and the erroneous use of force to enlist membership by religious extremists are two extremities Those Challenging Cracks of Secularism opposes in the search for ultimate truth. Aggrieved by the negative effects of competing alliances on core Christian religious teachings and values, the book discusses the recent ecclesiastical wrangling in the Episcopal Church that began with the ordination of gay priests and blessing of same-sex union. It further treats the recent clerical sex abuse scandal, allegations of cover-up, the financial burdens on the affected dioceses, as well as homosexuality in the priesthood. The mythological anabasis of the Old Testament books have often been interpreted wrongfully by fanatics to engage in senseless killings of innocent people in the name of God, something that has led to the mistaken practice of shutting religion off public places as private. No one should be denied the privilege of close relationship with God through attitude of religious indifference. Economic obsessions, technological enslavement, proliferations of arms, racial intolerance and unbridled political correctness have diluted religious values so much that people are constantly burdened with mistrust and skepticism.

Nanga Parbat Pilgrimage written by Hermann Buhl and has been published by Vertebrate Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-04-30 with Sports & Recreation categories.

In 1953 Hermann Buhl made the first ascent of Nanga Parbat - the ninth-highest mountain in the world, and the third 8,000-metre peak to be climbed, following Annapurna and Everest. It was one of the most incredible and committed climbs ever made. Continuing alone and without supplementary oxygen, Buhl made a dash for the summit after his partners turned back. On a mountain that had claimed thirty-one lives, an exhausted Buhl waded through deep snow and climbed over technical ground to reach the summit, driven on by an 'irresistible urge'. After a night spent standing on a small ledge at over 8,000 metres, Buhl returned forty-one hours later, exhausted and at the very limit of his endurance. Written shortly after Buhl's return from the mountain, Nanga Parbat Pilgrimage is a classic of mountaineering literature that has inspired thousands of climbers. It follows Buhl's inexorable rise from rock climber to alpinist to mountaineer, until, almost inevitably, he makes his phenomenal Nanga Parbat climb. Buhl's book, and ascent, reminded everyone that, while the mountains could never be conquered, they could be climbed with sufficient enthusiasm, spirit and dedication.
