Dangerous climate change is coming. Some people still deny that it is happening. Others refuse to recognise that it is now too late to prevent it. But both these reactions spring from the same source: our pathological attachment to ‘progress’, of which sustainability has been one more version. After Sustainability traces that attachment to its roots in the ways we make sense of ourselves. Original and accessible, this is philosophy on the edge, written for anyone who glimpses our environmental tragedy and cares about our future. Does the challenge to stop pretending offer our only remaining chance? Read this book and make up your own mind.

Denial And Hope In Family Members Of The Traumatically Brain Injured written by Barbara F. Levy and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with categories.

The author hypothesizes that the defense of denial can serve an adaptive function for family members not only immediately after the tragedy occurs, but for many years. the author interviewed nine family members from five different families, whose close relative had suffered a severe closed head injury six to eight years previously. the commonalities were the ages of the injured members, the severity of the injury, and the devotion and loyalty of the family members for their injured relative. After reviewing the literature on denial, and head injury, and interviewing the families in depth, the author analyzed the results of the interviews, and compared the results with the existing literature. Despite pessimistic prognoses all except two family members believed their relative would have a complete recovery. In retrospect, those who had been in a state of strong denial attest to the fact that their denial was helpful. the one parent not in denial experienced depression and hopelessness. Siblings not in denial distanced themselves from their injured sibling, avoided the pain of the situation. the unique circumstances of traumatic brain injury--the uncertain outcome of neurological injury, the "partial death" of the victim, the extended period of mourning--provide fertile soil for the growth of optimism and hope which are supported by the denial. Through the years denial seems cyclical, ebbing and flowing with the emergence of new experiences. A sense of reality gradually replaced omnipotent feelings and myths of complete recoveries. A variety of experiences brought about the gradual erosion of denial. Families seemed to have the least difficulty adjusting to the injured victim when the personality changes were minimal. Six to eight years post-accident all family members interviewed possessed realistic goals for their injured family member. Hope was still alive amongst the family members, who refused to accept the idea that there might be an end to progress for their relative. Denial and an acceptance of reality seem able to co-exist in a positive way, with denial present for years, still helping a family adapt.

In this heart-racing memoir, " Welcome Hope in the Fog", a mother shares their journey of parenting a child on the Autism Spectrum. This deeply personal account infused with some elements of creativity and humor has been written based on a recollection of a series of real-life events. Events may or may not be in chronological order and reported speeches have also been paraphrased. As pages turn, hope and despair walk hand in hand as the memoir unfolds the story of a diagnosis, a family's struggles, the countless challenges of navigating doctor's and therapist's appointments, hospital stays, and the world of parenting a special needs child. It's a raw, honest, and intimate portrayal of the emotional roller-coaster experienced by families on similar journeys. Each chapter is infused with the reason for our Hope amidst the struggles, tears, and the small victories along the way. For families who may be going through the same or similar experience, this memoir is not just a story; it's a companion in the darkest hours, offering inspiration, hope, and enlightenment. It's a reminder that even in the thickest parts of the fog, there is Hope. The very first review of the book is: Excellent writing!! My God, my heart was racing as I read your words. VERY POWERFUL. I was gripped, by such descriptive, heartfelt words. This book promises to touch your heart, introduce you to the reason for our Hope, and leave you with an enduring sense of Hope.

Walter Brueggemann is one of the most highly regarded Old Testament scholars of our time; talk-show host Krista Tippett has even called him "a kind of theological rock star." In this new book Brueggemann incisively probes our society-in-crisis from the ground up. Pointing out striking correlations between the catastrophe of 9/11 and the destruction of ancient Jerusalem, Brueggemann shows how the prophetic biblical response to that crisis was truth-telling in the face of ideology, grief in the face of denial, and hope in the face of despair. He argues that the same prophetic responses are urgently required from us now if we are to escape the deathliness of denial and despair. Brueggemann’s Reality, Grief, Hope boldly confronts the dominant forces of our time, taking on principalities and powers that vie for our souls, and calls the church to courageous action.

When God Says No written by Elizabeth Laing Thompson and has been published by Barbour Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05 with categories.

No is not a four-letter word, but it certainly feels like one. It's one thing to feel God's love when life goes your way, but what happens to your faith when life doesn't go as you had planned? When prayers go unanswered and dreams unfulfilled? When the sick stay sick and the dead do not rise? When you're lost in the desert and the Promised Land seems like empty promise? When God says, "No," how do you grapple with disappointment? Author Elizabeth Laing Thompson walks alongside readers as she tackles the difficulties that stymie our faith, stifle our prayers, and stunt our relationship with God. When God Says, "No" will help you to discover hope when life feels hopeless, good in what feels bad, and new dreams when old ones have died. This book is a fantastic reminder of Who is in charge--Who He is and how He works. How He loves us and why He limits us. The better we know Him, the more we understand that He says "No" to a few things, so He might say "Yes" to many more.
