Het probleem van het relativisme is op de meest dringende wijze aan de orde in tijden van overgang en verandering. Geen wonder dat het één van de opvallendste kenmerken is van de zogeheten postmoderne tijd waarin snelle en diepgaande veranderingen en transformaties schering en inslag zijn. Sommige intellectuelen zijn van oordeel dat het verhelderend en bevrijdend is te ontdekken dat de mens er alleen maar bij wint wanneer hij er de voorkeur aan geeft zonder identiteit, en vooral zonder religieuze identiteit, door het leven te gaan. Ze pleiten dan ook voor het aanbreken van een nieuw tijdperk, dat van de ‘postidentiteit’. Onderzoekers stellen echter vast dat de zoektocht naar elementen die in staat zijn te fungeren als bouwstenen voor een individuele en collectieve identiteit, nooit zo intensief is geweest als in onze dagen. Zij spreken van een echte obsessie met identiteit en van een identitaire koorts. Ook in christelijke milieus wordt met het probleem van de identiteit geworsteld. Op alle niveaus zijn christenen op zoek naar hun identiteit. Men beschrijft dat zoeken als ‘een vraag die het postmoderne christelijke bewustzijn obsedeert’, bestempelt het als ‘het belangrijkste probleem voor het rooms-katholicisme, en karakteriseert het als ‘de grote beproeving voor het christendom’. De auteur gaat na waaruit de christelijke identiteit, meer in het bijzonder die van de roomskatholieke versie van het christendom, precies bestaat. Hij besluit met een oproep tot de roomskatholieke gelovigen van West-Europa om zich, op grond van wat hen wezenlijk tot ‘katholieken’ maakt, eendrachtig in te spannen om hun geloof opnieuw een gezicht te geven, in de verwarde wereld waarin zij leven. Dat lijkt onder meer een voorwaarde te zijn voor het slagen van de nieuwe evangelisatie van het oude continent.

The question is: Is Jesus Divus Julius? (Is Jesus the historical figure of Divus Julius, the god to which Julius Caesar was elevated?). The iconography of Caesar do not fit our idea of him. In our minds Caesar is a field marshall and a dictator. However, authentic images portray the idea of the clementia Caesaris, a clement Caesar. Jesus' life is congruent to the life of Caesar. Both Julius Caesar and Jesus began their careers in northern countries: Caesar in Gaul, Jesus in Galilee; both cross a fatal river: the Rubicon and the Jordan; both then enter cities; Corfinium and Cafarnaum; Caesar finds Corfinium occupied by a man of Pompey and besieges him, while Jesus finds a man possessed by an impure spirit. There is similarity in structure as well as in place names. People in the stories of Caesar and of Jesus are structurally the same people, even by name and location. Caesar's most famous quotations are found in the gospels in structurally significant places.

The presence and participation of women in European Christian Democratic parties is one of the most important and radical changes of the past fifty years. After World War II, the acquisition of full voting rights for European women initiated a slow process of acknowledgement of their role in politics: not only as a reservoirs and collectors of votes but also as driving forces.
