Editorship Elisabeth Blum, Jesko Fezer, Günther Fischer, Angelika Schnell Not unjustly referred to as legendary, this series of books on the history and theory of architecture and urban development was founded in 1963 by Ulrich Conrads, who was joined by Peter Neitzke as a co-editor of the series in the early 1980s. Now numbering over 150 titles, it is the most comprehensive German-language book series covering these fields. Following the deaths of the two longtime editors Ulrich Conrads (2013) and Peter Neitzke (2015), a new editorial committee was formed to continue their work: Elisabeth Blum, Jesko Fezer, Günther Fischer and Angelika Schnell. As the future editors of this series, it is our aim to maintain the course set by our forerunners. The series has fulfilled its original aim of taking stock of the constructional and urban planning ideas and realizations formulated and achieved over the twentieth century in exemplary fashion. The Bauwelt Fundament series actually represents a history of ideas in the fields of planning and building that extends from the beginning of the twentieth century into the present. The second objective of the series, one that is anchored in its very name, will also continue to guide the development of the series, namely the publication of foundational thought - authoritative and fundamental - rather than passing opinion, of theses and polemics relating to the burning architectural and urban planning themes of the time. Penetrating complex interrelationships and probing them with systematic analysis provides the prerequisite for fruitful discourse and ongoing debate. As a forum for such discourses and contributions, the Bauwelt Fundamente series is maintaining its focus on the areas of architecture and urbanism, supplementing it with the always necessary historical investigation of important questions and texts and its extension into other cultural and social fields. A strong international orientation and the desire for more female authors are self-evident in such a context. The original graphic design approach taken by Helmut Lortz to the series is being maintained. As is fitting for a working library, Bauwelt Fundamente titles remain simply designed, using black and white for the logo, the images on the front and back, and the eleven-line summary of the volume's contents. This is indicative of the broad orientation of Bauwelt Fundamente to all those interested in the cultural and social development that provides the context for the creation of cities, houses and other objects, which in turn create contexts for the world. "Architects, it is said - or hoped - have always been interested in the world beyond the boundaries of their profession." (1) (1) Peter Neitzke, manuscript of his address Nicht mit dem Rücken zur Gesellschaft (Not with one's back to society) given to mark the fiftieth anniversary of Bauwelt Fundamente in Berlin, 2013.

In recent years, a formidable gulf has opened up between planning theory and practice. Over the past four decades, planning academics have developed strong theories and created models to accompany and elucidate the planning process. However, many planning practitioners have resisted the notion that theory can play a positive role in the solution of concrete planning problems This volume provides a comprehensive overview of all the main planning theories and models, while also introducing an innovative new model and a set of tools. Modeled on the theories of Mario Bunge this dynamic new approach allows planners to achieve a better understanding of the complexities involved in the role of planners and their impact on the built environment.

This reference work on the core competence of architects and designers provides a thorough and considered overview of the tools and theories, means and methods and practices and possibilities of creative design. In this substantially expanded edition, a review of recent developments since the first edition has been added, the chapters on digital tools have been updated, and a new, extensive practice section describes the foundations of digital, research-based processes and social agendas in design. The author "demonstrates compellingly that design is a synthesis of creative, technical and architectural skills coupled with academic research and reflection. Enlightening!" (Christian Thomas on the first edition). "Insight into the craft of design. Light in the darkness of how ideas take shape." (Jesko Fezer).

UR Reader consists of a set of essays written by international authors many 0 of whom are acknowledged experts in one or more aspects of information technology (IT) and its implications for society. The contents have been influenced by the fact that the relationship between IT and society has to be considered in an holistic context. Our purpose has been to present this series of essays in the loosely related perspectives of landscapes which reflect that holism. As editors, we have chosen to leave people free to select the different perspectives and traverse the landscapes in any manner they choose. The Reader seeks to raise social awareness of the issues at stake when we talk 1 about computers and social accountability and aims to encourage wider discus sion of the issues involved. It has a normative set of aims and indicates a determi nation to explore a possible reshaping and restructuring of information technol ogy according to human needs. In an Epilogue, new pointers are given for action. In what follows, we describe the rationale behind "The Information Society: Evolving Landscapes"; we move from the conference held at the University of Namur in June, 1988, which shaped the perspectives, then on to the various routes by which the landscapes can be traversed.

A Planner S Encounter With Complexity written by Gert de Roo and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-16 with Political Science categories.

Spatial planning is about dealing with our 'everyday' environment. In A Planner's Encounter with Complexity we present various understandings of complexity and how the environment is considered accordingly. One of these considerations is the environment as subject to processes of continuous change, being either progressive or destructive, evolving non-linearly and alternating between stable and dynamic periods. If the environment that is subject to change is adaptive, self-organizing, robust and flexible in relation to this change, a process of evolution and co-evolution can be expected. This understanding of an evolving environment is not mainstream to every planner. However, in A Planner's Encounter with Complexity, we argue that environments confronted with discontinuous, non-linear evolving processes might be more real than the idea that an environment is simply a planner's creation. Above all, we argue that recognizing the 'complexity' of our environment offers an entirely new perspective on our world and our environment, on planning theory and practice, and on the raison d'être of the planners that we are. A Planner's Encounter with Complexity is organized into 17 chapters. It begins with the interplay of planning and complexity from the perspective of contemporary planning theory. It continues by critically assessing planning theory and practice in the light of the interdisciplinary debate regarding complexity thinking. As the book progresses, it positions itself ever closer to the perspective of complexity thinking, looking at the planning discipline 'from the outside in', clarifying the facets of complexity and its importance in planning. Finally, conceptual and theoretical developments towards more applied examples are identified in order to see the interplay of planning and complexity in practice. This book emphasizes the importance of complexity in planning, clarifies many of the concepts and theories, presents examples on planning and complexity, and proposes new ideas and methods for planning.

Epistemological Dimensions Of Evolutionary Psychology written by Thiemo Breyer and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-11-04 with Psychology categories.

As psychology and philosophy arose as answers to the eternal question of how the mind works, evolutionary psychology has gained ground over recent years as a link between cognitive-behavioral and natural-science theories of the mind. This provocative field has also gathered a wide range of criticisms, from attributing too much autonomy to the brain to basing itself on faulty assumptions about our prehistoric past. Epistemological Dimensions of Evolutionary Psychology reframes its discipline for the contemporary era, correcting common misconceptions and mediating between different schools of thought. By focusing on the nature and limits of knowledge and reasoning--the essence of epistemology--contributors offer fresh insights at the intersection of human cognitive abilities as adaptations and our self-perception of knowledge, including evolutionary perspectives on altruism, depression, or the phasing out of human sacrifice. This diversity strengthens and vindicates the field, as evinced by thought-provoking dispatches such as: Toward a cognitive philosophy of science. Evolutionary media psychology and its epistemological foundation. The "meme" meme revisited. Depression as an adaptation. Like me: a homophily-based account of human culture. Preparedness to learn about the world: evidence from infant research. An engaging and often controversial testament to the combined power of evolution and logic, Epistemological Dimensions of Evolutionary Psychology will intrigue philosophers as well as psychologists in a variety of subdisciplines.

Spatial And Transport Infrastructure Development In Europe written by Bernd Scholl and has been published by BoD – Books on Demand this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-01-13 with Science categories.

The Orient-East-Med Corridor is a key north-south transport corridor for Europe. Over its length of more than 2500 km, it connects the seaports of northern Germany with the Danube ports and Greek seaports. Seven capitals of EU member states are directly interlinked by the Corridor. At present however, it has genuine shortcomings in several aspects. The international working group Spatial and Transport Development in European Corridors: Example Corridor 22, Hamburg-Athens (2015-2018) trace the conditions for large scale, corridor oriented spatial and transport development in Europe and in particular along the Orient-East-Med Corridor. The contributions in the anthology also focus on the importance of transnational initiatives in Europe and on territorial effects of transport policies. These topics are illustrated by analyses of current transport initiatives and urban developments at the most important nodes along the Corridor, so called Hot-Spots. During the work process, the authors asked themselves, if and how a strategy for the Corridor can take effect for an integrated spatial and transport development between Hamburg and Athens. The common answer is clear: A strategy for the Orient-East-Med Corridor allows the organization of a more balanced flow of goods throughout Europe in the long run. In the southeast section, enormous land reserves in the close vicinity of railway stations can be activated for urban development. Strengthening the Corridors infrastructure thus has a huge potential to trigger spatial development and ultimately contribute to territorial and social cohesion throughout Europe.

Planung In Der Krise written by Walter Schönwandt and has been published by Springer-Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-09 with Architecture categories.
