Nothing affects the modern economy (and society) more than decisions made in the market place, especially, but not only, decisions made by consumers. Although it is not startling to suggest that decisions made in production are affected by choices consumers make, consumers have long been viewed, not only by academic economists, as individual, isolated rational actors that make or refrain from purchases purely on the basis of narrow financial considerations. Markets are not and never were morally neutral. Market relations have always had an often taken-for-granted moral underpinning. The moralization of the markets refers to the dissolution and replacement of the conventional moral underpinnings of market conduct, for example, in the music market, financial markets, and corporate governance. It further implies not only the heightened importance of new ethical precepts, but the significant change in the role of moral ideals in market behavior. These profound transformations of economic conduct are accompanied and co-determined by societal conflicts. The moralization of markets represents thus a new stage in the social evolution of markets. The book is divided into four parts, in which the twelve chapters, written by contributors from different social science disciplines, deal with the context of the moralization of the markets; the major social institutions; and present case studies that examine European and American attitudes and behavior towards tobacco and GMO; expansion of the private and ethics in business; and how workers respond to the new corporate norms. This volume will be of interest to sociologists, economists, social scientists, and the general consumer alike.

-.- M. Catastrophe Spectacle written by Gesine Hindemith and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02 with Disasters in art categories.

From epidemics in the 17th century, through the Lisbon earthquake in 1755, and to Guernica in World War II, the essays of this volume show how a catastrophic imagination, heavily based on pictorial media and forms of staging, has developed since the early modern period. Thus, the catastrophe in its modern sense seems to be inextricably linked to its spectacular appearance, be it on stage, on screen, or in popular amusement parks. But increasingly, the modern relation between catastrophe and spectacle also confronts us with the unimaginable of invisible catastrophes, such as the Holocaust, and as is now seen to a large extent in the daily catastrophe of refugees suffering shipwrecks while trying in vain to reach European coasts. The essays of this volume touch upon the question of how a spectacular imagination of catastrophe is breaking ground with respect to discourse and media history. In their commentary function, these texts elucidate the images of catastrophes that inspire them. The interaction between the catastrophic scene and the text comments makes it possible to reconsider how the spectacular and the catastrophic are inter-related. Furthermore, the articles not only deal with the spectacularisation of the catastrophic, but also try to present themselves as a type of catastrophe criticism that is derived from the philological readings of the corresponding scenes. There is the underlying ambition for a critical philology of the catastrophe which, in a Benjaminian sense, demonstrates 'small leaps' within the catastrophic continuum and in which the catastrophe is confronted by other figures of thought, such as the disaster according to Maurice Blanchot. Neuroleadership written by Argang Ghadiri and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-26 with Business & Economics categories.

This book takes you on a journey through the brain, its function and its impact on leadership. The young business field of neuroleadership is founded on the belief that understanding the brain can give leaders new and powerful insights into human behaviour and how to effectively tap into that knowledge to generate better returns in business. The book approaches the background, history, and major thinkers in the field, but also reassesses the fundamental concept of neuroleadership. The authors look into the fundamental basic needs of human beings, how they are represented in the neural networks, and how this manifests in motivational drives. The book also focuses explicitly on how impactful organisational tools can be from the viewpoint of the brain. By following this methodology, the reader will be able to use the knowledge of neuroscience at the workplace to better address individuals’ brains and hence tap into the full power of brains in business.

Drawing on a range of theoretical perspectives developed in and around the work of Barthes, Kristeva, Genette and Derrida, Dr Prendergast explores approaches to the concept of mimesis and relates these to a number of narrative texts produced in the period which literary history familiarly designates as the age of realism.
