Großflächige Überschwemmungen und verheerende Unwetter sind die Folge. Ein Szenario, das keineswegs neu ist und bereits in Filmen wie "The Day after Tomorrow" aufgezeigt wurde. Die Auswirkungen globaler Gefahren sind heute in Zeitung, Radio und Fernsehen allgegenwärtig. In der langen Entwicklungsgeschichte der Erde hat es immer wieder abwechselnd Kälte- und Wärmeperioden gegeben, doch die Beschleunigung dieses aktuellen Wettergeschehens schenkt diesem eine verstärkte Aufmerksamkeit. Einerseits werden uns durch die moderne Technik, die weltweiten Hochwasser, Wirbelstürme und ausbreitende Desertifikationen täglich vor Augen geführt, andererseits ist es zudem möglich mittels Computersimulationen, Weltuntergangsszenarien oder visionären Filmen die Zukunft in unsere Gegenwart zu holen. Durch die mannigfaltigsten Reportagen wird die Bevölkerung mit einer möglichen Zukunft konfrontiert, die eventuelle Risiken aufzeigt und zum Nachdenken angeregt. Durch die Mobilitätszunahme seit dem Mittelalter und den industriellen Fortschritt im letzten Jahrhundert, ist die Menschheit im Zeitalter der Globalisierung angekommen. Die weltweite Vernetzung mittels Computer und Satelliten lässt jede Veränderung in der Umwelt sichtbar werden. Das Resultat aus "wissenschaftlicher Sicht" scheint alarmierend. Ist die Klimakatastrophe vielleicht doch keine Science-Fiction Zukunft?
