Industrie 4.0 and the Internet of Things have been positioned on the international stage as important initiatives of a promising future: Who is dealing in data from the digital factory? Germany has its “Plattform Industrie 4.0”, China “Made in China 2025” and the USA the “Industrial Internet Consortium”. Who is leading the fourth industrial revolution? The digitalization of industry is changing the global economy and society. Technology is supplying the opportunities to do so. Humans must decide just how far artificial intelligence should go, and what machines should learn – to create new and improved work instead of fewer jobs. In addition to Ulrich Sendler and eight German industry and research experts, the CEO of Xinhuanet in Beijing has also contributed to this book.

Presenting The Past written by Susan Porter Benson and has been published by Temple University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1986 with History categories.

In recent years, history has been increasingly popularized through television docudramas, history museums, paperback historical novels, grassroots community history projects, and other public representations of historical knowledge. This collection of lively and accessible essays is the first examination of the rapidly growing field called "public history." Based in part on articles written for the Radical History Review, these eighteen original essays take a sometimes irreverent look at how history is presented to the public in such diverse settings as children's books, Colonial Williamsburg, and the Statue of Liberty, Presenting the Past is organized into three areas which consider the role of mass media ("Packaging the Past"), the affects of applied history ("Professionalizing the Past") and the importance of grassroots efforts to shape historical consciousness ("Politicizing the Past"). The first section examines the large-scale production and dissemination of popular history by mass culture. The contributors criticize many of these Hollywood and Madison Avenue productions that promote historical amnesia or affirm dominant values and institutions. In "Professionalizing the Past," the authors show how non-university based professional historians have also affected popular historical consciousness through their work in museums, historic preservation, corporations, and government agencies. Finally, the book considers what has been labeled "people's history"--oral history projects, slide shows, films, and local exhibits--and assesses its attempts to reach such diverse constituents as workers, ethnic groups, women, and gays. Of essential interest to students of history, Presenting the Past also explains to the general reader how Americans have come to view themselves, their ancestors, and their heritage through the influence of mass media, popular culture, and "public history." Author note: Susan Porter Benson is Associate Professor and Chair of History at Bristol Community College in Massachusetts. Stephen Brier is Director of the American Social History Project and Senior Research Scholar at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. Roy Rosenzweig is Associate Professor of History and Director of the Oral History Program at George Mason University in Virginia.

At the start of the twenty-first century, the Internet was already perceived to have fundamentally changed the landscape for research. With its opportunities for digital networking, novel publication schemes, and new communication formats, the web was a game-changer for how research was done as well as what came after--the dissemination and discussion of results. Addressing the seismic shifts of the past ten years, Cyberscience 2.0 examines the consequences of the arrival of social media and the increasing dominance of big Internet players, such as Google, for science and research, particularly in the realms of organization and communication.

Edgar W., teenage dropout, unrequited lover, unrecognized genius - and dead - tells the story of his brief, spectacular life. It is the story of how he rebels against the petty rules of communist East Germany to live in an abandoned summer house, with just a tape recorder and a battered copy of Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther for company. Of his passionate love for the dark-eyed, unattainable kindergarten teacher Charlie. And of how, in a series of calamitous events (involving electricity and a spray paint machine), he meets his untimely end. Absurd, funny and touching, this cult German bestseller, now in a new translation, is both a satire on life in the GDR and a hymn to youthful freedom.

Institutions In Cultures written by Robert Lumsden and has been published by Rodopi this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with History categories.

The book represents a selection of papers presented at an international symposium in Singapore on the role of theory and practice in the mutually interactive and mutating relations between institutions and cultures. In effect, the papers turn about a single theme: the ways in which power is expressed through those institutions by means of which cultures mediate their requirements. The symposium brought together scholars and academics from a variety of disciplines, including literature, philosophy, cultural studies, sociology, comparative literature and comparative religions. In terms of the geography of cultures and the history of institutions, the range of reference to this book of the symposium is global: from Hong Kong awaiting 1997, through the travails of political democracy in Singapore, and Cultural Studies a la Greenblatt or under the aegis of Shakespeare as cultural idol, through German Romantic theory and its relevance to current theorizing about theory in America, to Zen Buddhism and Nagarjuna and how these two sources refract the concerns of Jung, Lacan and Derrida; through Colonialism and postcoloniality and how they have shaped identity and mediated power to the current crises in education created by these mediations, specifically, in literary studies. The aim of the symposium was twofold: to theorize about the impulse to theorize in relation to the plurality of cultures and institutions which comprises our contemporary world; and to ground this impulse in those specificities and contingencies which provide resistance to such theorizing."
