Eines der wundervollsten Dinge, die mir jemals passiert sind, war, dass eine Freundin mir einen Koran gab, weil sie nicht wollte, dass ihr Hund ihn noch einmal zwischen die Zähne bekäme. Natürlich war ich mir damals sicher, dass ich niemals eine Muslimin werden könnte. Es wäre zweifellos völlig verrückt für eine aufgeklärte westliche Frau, solch einen selbstzerstörerischen Akt auch nur in Erwägung zu ziehen. Ich wusste an diesem schicksalhaften Tag Mitte der Siebzigerjahre noch nicht, dass das Frauenbild des Korans sich sehr von dem unterscheidet, was wir als das islamische Frauenbild kennen. Vielmehr ist unter allen Heiligen Schriften der Koran zweifellos der Fackelträger der Frauen. Das hätten Sie nicht erwartet, nicht wahr? Lisa Spray

Wenn wir also den Islam als Lebensart und Gesetz verstehen wollen, müssen wir auf beide Quellen zurückgreifen. In diesem Heft werden die Begriffe Quran und Sunna erklärt.

It is a known fact that every language has one or more terms that are used to refer to God and sometimes to lesser deities at the same time. This is not the case with Allah SWT. Allah is the personal name of the One true God. Nothing else can be called Allah. The term has no plural or gender. This shows its uniqueness when compared with the word "god," which can be made plural, as in "gods," or made feminine, as in "goddess." It is interesting to note that Allah is the personal name of God in Aramaic, the language of Jesus and a sister language of Arabic. The One true God is a reflection of the unique concept that Islam associates with Allah SWT. To a Muslim, Allah SWT is the Almighty Creator and Sustainer of the universe, Who is similar to nothing, and nothing is comparable to Him. The Prophet Muhammad SAW was asked by his contemporaries about Allah SWT; the answer came directly from Allah SWT Himself in the form of a short chapter of The Noble Quran, which is considered to be the essence of the unity or the motto of pure monotheism. This is chapter 112, which reads: "In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate. Say (O Muhammad), He is Allah, the One God, the Self-Sufficient, who has not begotten, nor has been begotten, and equal to Him is not anyone." (The Noble Quran) Es ist bekannt, dass es in jeder Sprache einen oder mehrere Begriffe gibt, mit denen gleichzeitig auf Gott und manchmal auch auf kleinere Gottheiten Bezug genommen wird. Dies ist bei Allah SWT nicht der Fall. Allah ist der persönliche Name des einen wahren Gottes. Nichts anderes kann Allah genannt werden. Der Begriff hat weder Plural noch Geschlecht. Dies zeigt seine Einzigartigkeit, wenn man ihn mit dem Wort "Gott" vergleicht, das pluralisiert werden kann, wie in "Götter", oder weiblich gemacht werden kann, wie in "Göttin". Es ist interessant festzustellen, dass Allah der persönliche Name Gottes in Aramäisch ist, der Sprache Jesu und eine Schwestersprache des Arabischen. Der Eine wahre Gott ist ein Spiegelbild des einzigartigen Konzepts, das der Islam mit Allah SWT assoziiert. Für einen Muslim ist Allah SWT der allmächtige Schöpfer und Erhalter des Universums, der dem Nichts ähnlich ist, und nichts ist mit Ihm vergleichbar. Der Prophet Muhammad SAW wurde von seinen Zeitgenossen über Allah SWT befra> die Antwort kam direkt von Allah SWT selbst in Form eines kurzen Kapitels des Edlen Korans, das als Essenz der Einheit oder als Motto des reinen Monotheismus gilt. Dies ist Kapitel 112, in dem es heißt: "Im Namen Allahs, des Barmherzigen, des Barmherzigen". Sprich (O Muhammad): Er ist Allah, der Eine Gott, der Selbstgenügsame, der nicht gezeugt hat und nicht gezeugt worden ist, und ihm ist niemand gleich. (Der Edle Koran)

Der Loskauf von Sklaven und Gefangenen hat den Mittelmeerraum von der Antike bis in die Frühe Neuzeit geprägt. Er stellt, eng verbunden mit der Geschichte der Sklaverei, nicht nur verschiedene Facetten des Bemühens um deren Beseitigung dar, sondern ist darüber hinaus auch selbst ein entscheidender Bestandteil verschiedener Konflikt- und Beziehungsgeschichten. Die vierzehn Beiträge dieses Sammelbandes, die auf eine von der DFG geförderte internationale Tagung im September 2013 in Paderborn zurückgehen, betrachten die Thematik erstmalig unter der vorrangigen Fragestellung nach der Bedeutung von Religion. Sie untersuchen epochenübergreifend und aus jüdischer, christlicher und muslimischer Sicht Praxis und Begründungen des Loskaufs aus den Händen der jeweils Andersgläubigen. Dadurch werden zum einen die in den drei abrahamitischen Religionen jeweils geführten theologiegeschichtlichen Diskurse analysiert und nach Möglichkeit miteinander in Beziehung gesetzt. Zum anderen gelingt es, die bislang dominierende wirtschafts- und sozialgeschichtliche Betrachtungsweise des Loskaufs um die religionsgeschichtliche Perspektive zu ergänzen und damit ein neues, vielversprechendes Forschungsfeld zu präsentieren. Slave redemption and prisoner redemption characterised the Mediterranean region from antiquity to the early modern age. Closely connected with the history of slavery, these phenomena not only represent different facets of the efforts to end slavery but are also in themselves a decisive part of various histories of conflict and relationships. The fourteen essays in this volume, originally presented at an international conference in Paderborn sponsored by the DFG in September 2013, examine the theme for the first time in terms of the fundamental question of the significance of religion. Taking a broad chronological sweep they examine, from Jewish, Christian and Muslim perspectives, the practice and justification of redeeming slaves from the hands of those of other faiths. Thus the theological and historical discourses in each of the three Abrahamic religions are analysed and the links between them established where possible. The approach also adds the perspective of religious history to the previously dominant social and economic approaches to slave redemption, opening up a new and greatly promising field of research.
