Unterrichtsentwurf aus dem Jahr 2014 im Fachbereich Didaktik - Geschichte, Note: 2,3, Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Unterrichtsziel: Die Schüler erkennen die Gründe kontroverser Beurteilungen bezüglich der Betrachtung von Sklaven im antiken Rom durch Zeitgenossen, indem sie mit Hilfe von divergierenden Zitaten zwei gegensätzliche Standpunkte kennenlernen, arbeitsteilig unterschiedliche Sichtweisen der Behandlung bzw. Lebenssituation von Sklaven erarbeiten und durch das Nachvollziehen verschiedener Standpunkte ein Sachurteil bilden. Von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart haben Menschen in unfreien Lebens- und Arbeitsverhältnissen gelebt. Sämtliche Hochkulturen kannten die Sklaverei. Auch heute noch ist die Sklaverei in allen Teilen der Erde verbreitet. Die moderne Sklaverei zeigt sich an grausamen Beispielen wie Kinderarbeit und Zwangsprostitution. Nach der Vertreibung der etruskischen Könige bestand die römische Gesellschaft aus drei Gruppen. Neben den sogenannten freien Ständen der römischen Gesellschaft, (Patrizier und Plebejer) gab es den unfreien Stand, dem Menschen angehörten, die völlig rechtlos waren: die Sklaven. Die gesellschaftliche und wirtschaftliche Ordnung der Antike beruhte in wesentlichen Punkten auf der Sklaverei und war ohne sie nicht denkbar. Der Schwerpunkt der antiken Sklaverei liegt nach Auffassung von Bleicken „in dem Übergang von der Republik zur Kaiserzeit, nämlich etwa von der Mitte des 2. vorchristlichen bis zur Mitte des 2. nachchristlichen Jahrhunderts, [...].“ Ein Sklave kann dabei als ein entrechteter Mensch bezeichnet werden, der gegen seinen Willen festgehalten, verschleppt, misshandelt und wirtschaftlich ausgebeutet wird. Demnach ist der Sklave der Besitz eines anderen Menschen und führt zu einem Akt der Unterwerfung. Statt etwa nach einem Krieg den besiegten Feind zu töten, begannen die Römer sukzessiv mit der Gefangennahme, der Verschleppung und Ausbeutung der verfeindeten Menschen. Dadurch wurden die Sklaven Eigentum des römischen Staates und verloren auch alle Rechte. Dies galt für römische Kriegsgefangene wie auch für gefangene Römer. Oftmals wurden Sklaven gegeneinander ausgetauscht oder auch von Angehörigen freigekauft.

Jeder konnte Sklave werden egal ob Plebejer oder Ausländer. Der Staat hat es geduldet, denn er hat selbst am meisten Geld damit verdient, da er die Sklaven ausbeutete. Die Sklaverei bildete die Voraussetzung für die Eroberungen Roms und waren Grundlage für weitere Eroberungen. Das Thema Sklaven in Rom wird zwar nicht explizit im Bildungsplan 2004 erwähnt, dennoch setze ich es in den Themenbereich 2: Lebens- und Wirtschaftsformen in der Vergangenheit, indem die Schüler verschiedene Organisationsformen des alltäglichen Lebens kennen lernen. Ein Unterthema dazu heißt die Römer in Südwestdeutschland. „Die Schüler können wesentliche Kennzeichen der römischen Kultur, Wirtschaft und Zivilisation beschreiben“. Die Schüler wurden in das Thema Rom, die Ausbreitung Roms und in die römische Gesellschaft eingeführt. Sie wissen, dass die Patrizier und die Plebejer römische Bürger sind. Nun ist es wichtig, dass die Schüler erfahren, dass es nicht nur diese zwei Gesellschaftsgruppen gibt, sondern noch eine dritte Gruppe: die Sklaven.

Freestanding bronze statuary was the primary mode of artistic expression in classical Greece, yet it was not until the nineteenth century that any original large statues of that period were unearthed. In the early Roman Empire a new literary genre began to flourish, mainly in the Greek world: prose fiction, or romance. Broadly defined as a love story that offers adventure and a romantic vision of life, this form of literature emerged long after the other genres and, until recently, seemed hardly worthy of critical attention. Here B. P. Reardon addresses the growing interest in ancient fiction by providing a literary and cultural framework in which to understand Greek romance, and by demonstrating its importance as an artistic and social phenomenon. Beginning with a discussion of Chariton's Chaereas and Callirhoe, Reardon sets out the generic characteristics of the romance. He then moves through a wide range of works, including those of Longus and Heliodorus, and reveals their sophistication in terms of social observation, technique within a convention, and the stance adopted by the authors toward their own creations.
