Este libro condensa en sus páginas la práctica totalidad de las nociones que integran la Teoría general de las obligaciones, y lo hace de manera concisa, en un volumen fácilmente manejable, evitando una dilatada extensión, aunque, no por ello, abdica del necesario rigor al analizar de cada una de las figuras que contempla. El llamado plan Bolonia impone la adaptación de las enseñanzas jurídicas, introduciendo nuevos métodos y criterios formativos, pero tales parámetros no pueden llevar a los universitarios a renunciar a aspectos fundamentales de una disciplina tan esencial como el Derecho civil, pues abocaría en carencias insalvables e inaceptables, pero sí, desde luego, a realizar un esfuerzo de síntesis que redunde en la calidad de sus conocimientos. Por ello, esta obra no estudia todas las materias que componen el llamado Derecho de obligaciones, sino que se centra en la obligación y sus vicisitudes, sin incluir la responsabilidad extracontractual, los cuasi contratos, la teoría general del contrato, ni los contratos en particular, que deberán ser objeto de tratamiento separado. Finalmente, destaca el libro por un aspecto de especial utilidad práctica, tanto para el profesional como para el universitario acogido a los nuevos planes de estudio, cual es el análisis jurisprudencial actualizado que acomete, a través de las continuas referencias a las posturas del Tribunal Supremo al pronunciarse sobre las más diversas instituciones que se estudian, en las mil doscientas sentencias que, aproximadamente, son citadas.
