L’ideazione di questo saggio nasce dall’intento di sondare una struttura, una trama, una rete di un universo di linguaggio dalla tessitura ben ordita ma ancora poco conosciuta, quale è quella della poesia femminile, in particolare italiana e rinascimentale del 1500. Indicativamente, le date entro cui si svolge questo percorso sono comprese tra il 1540 e il 1560, con radici e origini tematiche già nella prima metà del secolo. Non a caso l’argomento di cui si tratta riguarda la poesia d’amore, tesa a superare il vieto petrarchismo ormai vulgato di tanta lirica coeva. In questo senso Gaspara Stampa, la sua voce, rimane esemplare. Ella ha dato pienamente espressione, attraverso il linguaggio sovraordinato, coordinato e subordinato, al desiderio femminile amoroso.

La rappresentazione del corpo femminile in rapporto al desiderio sensoriale e alle emozioni è un aspetto centrale della lirica cortese. Più volte sono state fornite analisi sull’importanza del ruolo svolto da singole eroine del canone letterario, sulla valenza del corpo nella lirica medievale e sui singoli sensi. Non si è però affrontata con sistematicità diacronica, nella lirica dei trovatori, la questione della donna riguardo alla funzione e alla metamorfosi di tutti e cinque i sensi considerati nel loro insieme, anche a proposito dell’esegesi patristica, del vocabolario mediolatino di riferimento e delle sue rifrazioni sul lessico della fisiologia emozionale romanza. Questo volume tenta di restituire un’analisi storico-semantica puntuale di come la relazione tra la donna e i sensi si trasforma nella lirica cortese, soprattutto riguardo alla manifestazione del desiderio e delle emozioni. La metamorfosi dei sensi muliebri consente di tracciare un percorso diacronico che, a partire da Guglielmo IX, approda alla trasformazione del corpo femminile nel suo solo e “ossessivo” pensiero. Tempo fa mi è capitato di leggere un articolo scritto da Laurie Penny, una scrittrice femminista britannica, riguardo alla cultura dello stupro, così da lei definita: "Cultura dello stupro" non implica semplicemente una società in cui lo stupro è routine, sebbene rimanga inconsapevolmente comune. La cultura dello stupro descrive un processo in cui lo stupro e la molestia sessuale vengono normalizzati e scusati. Un processo in cui l'agire sessuale delle donne viene costantemente negato... Un processo in cui si suppone che gli uomini abbiano l'autocontrollo erotico di un gibbone con un barattolo di viagra in mano.... Credo sia di qualche importanza domandarci, soprattutto noi maschi, da dove provenga la cultura dello stupro se vogliamo, e dobbiamo, metterla in discussione. Con questo libro ho cercato di individuarne l'origine in quel Medioevo maschio da cui sono convinto provenga il nostro immaginario sessuale, nella certezza che conoscere possa essere l'inizio di una doverosa trasformazione.

The aim of this book is to investigate the delicate relationship between female sanctity and madness, in a time-frame extending from medieval until contemporary times. Constellated by visions, ecstatic raptures, morbid rituals, stigmata and obsessions, the complex phenomenology of female mysticism appears in fact to be articulated and polymorphous, traversed by 'representations' that it seems possible to link to the wide spectrum of mental disorders, as well to the hagiographic stereotypes and anthropological implications. Male and female scholars from different disciplines (from history to philology, from anthropology to art history, from theology to literary criticism, from psychiatry to psychoanalysis) try to outline a thematic and problematic itinerary, intended to examine, step by step, potential pathological aspects and contexts of reference for the purpose of attempting to reconstruct the complex evolutionary trajectory of female mystical language.
