Il 30 dicembre 2016 sul “Corriere della Sera” il Maestro del design Enzo Mari pronunciò parole di fuoco nei confronti dell’attuale generazione di designer, definendola “degradata” e incapace di capire “il significato profondo delle cose”. Erano frasi pesanti per quei progettisti che lavoravano durante una della più grandi e durature crisi economiche mai viste. Ho provato a capire perché un Maestro di tale importanza sentiva l’esigenza di esprimere opinioni così forti e mi sono posto alcune domande: conosciamo veramente le istanze di quella generazione che stiamo così categoricamente giudicando? Siamo sicuri di stare utilizzando sistemi di lettura adeguati rispetto a quello che la contemporaneità richiede? Forse Mari -e diversi altri- non critica tanto una generazione, ma manifesta una forte insofferenza verso chi propone una visione della disciplina radicalmente cambiata, soprattutto rispetto alla realtà a cui i progettisti del secolo scorso erano abituati. Forse questa “generazione degradata” ha bisogno di essere ascoltata, capita e magari raccontata: ho quindi provato a farlo andando ad incontrare alcuni designer che la rappresentano, parlando con loro e pubblicando quello che avevano da dire.
